Aftershave Hall of Shame

Let's face it... Aftershaves can be divisive.

Some love Clubman, others detest it.

Some hate the Veg, while others, well, smell like pee. I jest.

What aftershaves have you took one whiff of and hated, or tried to love and just couldn't make it work?

 

I'll start.

Anything by Barbasol, it smells diluted and sickly for some reason.

Clubman Special Reserve. Not for me. I know some may like it. But I am not smelling the tobacco. Unless you mean ash tray. As one of my friends said after smelling it for the first time, it smells like old men dying in a nursing home.

Brut. Can't stand the smell... Just smells cheap.

Aqua Velva Musk... I'm still not 100% sure about this one, but it smells good in the bottle but smells sickly sweet on me.

Anything Avon.

Reformulated classics by Dana-I use to love English Leather, British Sterling, and Canoe. Now they are drug store versions of watered down industrial cleaner. Their longevity lasts as far as the bathroom door.

Old spice has to be in the hall of fame for me. Its not my favorite scent but i like to splash it on every once in a while. Reminds me of my dad and grandpa - its also indirectly the reason i found myself on these forums getting in to wet shaving.

Not to step on anyone's toes as 'favorite' or 'hated' scents are always so subjective, but there are a few aftershaves I have tried on several occasions that I wont use again.
Some, despite multiple attempts at 'learning to like it,' just didn't agree with my nose and smelled either 'cheap' or were just off-putting. There are others that I can tolerate that my wife cannot abide, so those get tossed as well.

I haven't used an aftershave that made me want to wash it off, I've used some that are better than others. Right now my least favorite is Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel, I'm trying to get my son to take it off my hands.

 

Lol im sure the scent is linked to quite a bit of shame as well lol

 

If its vintage I would be more than happy to help you unload it in S Florida.

Allot of people seem to dislike Clubman citing the fact that it smells like an "old man".
And your point is?

 

This is each person's opinions. Just the fact that many older men in their lives may have worn similar scents.

 

I know. No offense taken. Just a little tongue and cheek on my part. The truth is if I had to choose between my I-Hop discount card or Clubman, the man would have to go.

3) Aqua Velva Musk (I loathe it)
4) Royal Copenhagen (I can't stand it)
5) Jovan Musk (Don't come near me if you're wearing it!)
6) English Leather (I dislike it intensely)

There are others but I can't think of them offhand.
