Good grief, what's wrong with me? I get like this sometimes about things. I become absolutely obsessed with something, and I explore it and research it and read about it constantly. Right now it's aftershave--I keep buying different kinds, and I still want more. I just bought Grey Flannel, Adidas, Nivea post shave balm, Witch Hazel, Ogallala Bay Rum, and God help me now I'm wanting some Old Spice and an alum block. At the same time it also pains me to have things sitting around that aren't getting used, so I feel compelled to use it all up, and it's not getting used up fast enough so this causes me anxiety. I know, I'm a complete nutcase. :whacky011 But while we're on the subject, recommend your fave ... BTW, I really don't like the drugstore old man scents like Penaud (sorry fans) and Skin Bracer and that kind of stuff. Reminds me of some of the stuffy old codgers I've gone to church with.
Murray and Lanman's Florida Water Aqua Velva Classic English Leather British Sterling Jovan Musk (I think everything else I'd probably recommend is pretty codger ) PS: Your obsession would probably be considered unusual anywhere else in the universe, but trust me brother everybody here has been there done that and got the shirt
Art, you have company, and truth be told, lots of it. I too, am a scentaholic. Whether it has a codger scent or not. In fact, I have more codger scents than any other, mainly because of being born with a tighter than bark on a tree mentality. Want to drive yourself absolutely wild? Go to the cologne/aftershave reviews here and even worse at Badger and Blade. Soooooo many to try, and I want to try them all!
haaaaaaaaaaaa as I understand! I too am a freak I have lots of after-shave: Noxzema, Proras (with and without alcohol), floyd (blue and brown), AV ice blue, denim (silver, musk and classic ...)! Lately, my passion is moving towards the blade, who knows 'why'!
I'm with you on the obsessions, though just not for A/S. First it was bass guitars. I only have two, but for a while I was reading all I could, even on the Fender Bass forum. Now I just play for the church worship team. Then it was fountain pens. I still read some, collect, and go to the shows (one coming up in Philly in January). I was on a pen forum, but got tired of, "What color ink should I use with my _____ colored pen?" Now it's shaving. I still wonder about myself at times. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone with these obsessions.
One you need to try that I haven't seen mentioned is Aqua Velva Musk. I don't long for musks but that one is very appealing to me. And it's like $4 so its not a huge loss if you don't like it. ANNNND, I hate to tell but it doesn't get much more codger than Old Spice! I have it and like it but I also like Pinaud as well. Best of luck with your illness!:taunt002
Ha, I hear you. When I talk about not liking codger scents it has nothing to do with stigmas or public opinion, just my own experiences. I guess there were authority figures in my youth, probably old crotchety types, with whom I associate the scents of musk and Skin Bracer particularly. My grandpa wore Skin Bracer daily, and I just remember how he didn't like kids very much and I always got on his nerves a lot. So I guess I associate that smell with him yelling at me to be quiet and leave that alone. When I go doing my "aisle perve" "shave-stalking" (there's a new term for ya, freeya charge), I just sniff the bottles and if I like it I like it, and Old Spice smells really nice to me.
I am a huge fan of Booster's Mosswood. Then there is Florida Water and most types of Bay Rum and any flavor of TSD Aftershave Milks!
I'm with you on this one Steve. And I wonder how many others on this board have a similar personality. When I get in to something, I'm all in. I read up like crazy, find the forums, spend hours looking through eBay and Amazon listings. For me it has been cameras, Bluegrass (and all of its associated instruments), vintage style grooming, and many others. To stay on topic, I really like Florida Water.
What we have here is a ...Disorder ..Disorder. Aftershaves...Colonges...Razors...Blades...Soaps...Creams...Brushes...Mugs... Scuttles...Barberinia.... Where does it end...or does it?
My wife thinks I'm obsessed with the whole wet shaving thing and my daughter thinks shaving should take 5 minutes. There both impatient for anything. I joke saying, "I know the box of instant pudding, is a lying SOB." But I have to say Aqua Velva is good for me and the Club Med I found under the sink works pretty good as well
