Been lurking for a while and this seems like a pretty laid back place so I thought I'd join. Have wet shaved since I started in the mid-80s. I mainly use an Atra II, Van der Hagan brush and Williams soap. Though I have been alternating with an old Gillette adjustable, it hasn't been getting as close as I like (I have a really tough beard and fear going ATG with the DE). I like me some Clubman. Not too big on colognes. I dunno, as I get older I learn to cook, appreciate a tube amp, play around with fountain pens. I guess it's all part of getting past just surviving and learning how to flourish. Nice to meet you all.:happy005
Welcome! What a letdown. I was expecting something like Mililani, Hawaii and I get Upstate NY. Well, at least it's a fellow New Yorker.
Welcome to TSD. Glad to have you here. I like your line: "getting past just surviving and learning how to flourish". About sums it up. Don't worry about ATG w/ the DE. As long as beard prep (whisker softening) is up to par and you're careful, you can do it. My whiskers are quite coarse and w/out an ATG pass or two I wouldn't get smooth. When you're more comfortable give it a go. Good luck.
Glad to have you here. I just picked up an Atra and have added it to my little rotation of razors...I like how it shaves quite a bit and you can't beat the price of Personna blades for it. Cheaper than a lot of DE blades.
All excellent hardware you have there, only thing that you need is a double edge razor and some blades to go with it. Would you mind posting a photo of that Atra of yours, I would like to see what one looks like. Personally I am not a fan of Williams and I have tried a VDH and its very good, but "I will stick to my Conk brush and soap.
Sorry JB, don't have a camera. I love the smells of the Colonel but like the action a soap with dead animals in it gives me. =)
Drats and double drats (no I a dating myself - anyone ever watch Waky Races when they were kids?). Do you know where to find a photo of one on the net Brush & Blade?
