Hey guys, curious to get your view on good alternatives to shaving soap/cream. There are some listed in this article like hair conditioner and baby oil. What do you guys think?

If you must, you can use everything can lube the skin.
    Gel, oil, liquid soap. EVERYTHING.

But the best way to shave is a good soap with a good brush.
    Period.

When I was a head shaver I used conditioner with a cartridge razor countless times. Generally in the shower.

I’ve also used hand and body lotion in a pinch with good success.

I can’t remember exactly what happened but I only tried baby oil once and it didn’t go well. I can’t remember if I broke out or had razor burn or what, but I never used it to shave with again.

Today if I’m pressed for time I goober up with pre-shave oil and get in the shower with a Schick injector. First pass with just the oil and subsequent passes under the shower head.

I normally use pre=shave oil, but I am not inclined to use it as a substitute for the soap.

The closest I've come is shaving with Ivory soap

unlathered shampoo can work pretty well based on personal experience.
