Some people are sensitive to the SLS contained in VDH. I can't use any soaps that have SLS because it causes me to have dry skin & eczema.
Where are you from? It seems someone around where you live should sell C.O. Bigalow...I.M.O. C.O. Bigalow is superior to Creamo..Is there no Crabtree and Evelyn,Walmart,K-Mart, Target,Sally Beauty Salon or any store like those around you?
Sally's doesn't have anything. I'm from south Arkansas. And the walmart that has creamo and VDH is 50-75 miles away. So about an hour away. And dollar General is the ONLY. Place that has blades lol
I have. No one has anything within that 50 miles. Bummed me out. When I found my razor I went on a DEEP scavenger hunt. I even asked barber shops if they'd sell their soap lol
I live in an area without much selection as well. I've had really good luck getting gear and soaps from other members via the Marketplace thread as well as the B/S/T threads on the Shave Nook and Badger and Blade. Everything I've purchased from other traditional shaving enthusiasts is shipped very quickly. Everything I've purchased via Amazon takes a long time to get to me.
I use VDH Deluxe regularly. When this happens I do one of two things. If my lather was good that morning, I dip the tip of my brush in water and re-swirl the lather that's on my face. IME, what is happening is the lather is drying out. Add a bit of water to rehydrate it. If my lather was thin that morning, I add more lather from the bowl. Either way, I'm adding a bit more moisture. Don't be afraid to do what you need to. This is not a contest. Like Julia Child said about dropping the turkey, you are alone in the [bathroom]. Do what you need to get the job done. Nine times out of ten, IME more product works wonders. YMMV.
Ok Aelfred, I am in a really good mood today as I won Weeper Warrior's Arko PIF. So here's what I have to offer you (if you'd like).I recently picked up a new tube of c.o. bigelow, so I can send you the remainder of the tube I have been working on to see if you like it. I also have some blade samples (Feather, Derby and Gillette Silver Blue) that I can throw in too. Let me know if you are interested, if so then you can send me your info later.
I know you've looked everywhere, but maybe having a specific target will help: If you have a Rite Aid or TJ-Maxx anywhere near you (and "near" seems to be a relative term), many of them carry The Real Shaving Company products. The cream is inexpensive, lathers well, is fairly odorless, and provides for a good shave. Some others mentioned C. O. Bigelow. If there's a mall anywhere within 50 miles of you that has a Bath and Body Works, they usually carry this. Most of the time they run a "buy two, get one half price" or something like that, so you can stock up for quite a while.
