As the title says, I am looking for recommendations. But first, a little background. I have been shaving with a brush for around 4 months now. I prefer face lathering. I currently own a Semogue 1305 Boar, Omega Pro 48 Boar and a Perfecto Pure Badger.

I like the softness and backbone of the badger, but the one I have is just cheap junk. It does a good job of lathering, and is quite comfortable, but it sheds like crazy, usually a dozen or more hairs per use. The Pro 48 is my go-to bowl lather brush. I use the Semogue the most and it does a wonderful job, but I'd like to try something a little softer, and I'd use it primarily for face lathering. I'd like to try another badger, but open to trying synthetic, horse, or whatever. I'm looking for something not too expensive, say around $40.

    Let's see what you've got!

I like the www.WhippedDog.com bush he sent me and I received a week ago. I keep using other brushes and going back to his Silver Tip Badger brush. Great guy to deal with also.

If you have been shaving four months and rotating three brushes, then it's likely they are not fully broken in yet. I have both an Omega and the 1305, and can't imagine finding anything softer under $40.

My advice would be to hold onto the $40, pick one of the two boars you have, and use it exclusively for a few more months. Then if you want something truly different, grab a high end badger brush when you have a bit more to spend....

Face lathering creams I use a Plisson synthetic and it's fantastic. My new Vie-Long 12705 is pretty dang good, too.

Face lathering soaps and croaps my current #1 (I have a few others incoming) is a Whipped Dog High Mountain. Really easy to get product on the brush and make tons of lather on the face.

If go with Whipped Dog. You could look on Etsy and find yourself a custom brush.

Try a whippeddog Silvertip or high mountain badger. Price will be $30.00 with shipping included. Can't go wrong with either brush. I have a two of them. A silvertip which is great for face lathering and a pure badger which works great for both face and bowl lathering.

+1 on this. They become very soft when broken in and still have backbone, the best of both worlds.

My first brush purchase was a horse hair vie-long and I love it.
