Grabbed this brush at a local antique shop. Only cost $5. Not in the best condition and I'm sure they are just about everywhere but I still thought it was neat. It's my first vintage shave grab. Anyone know anything about it? It is a Cavalier pure bristles set in rubber. What kind of hair is it? Also do people recommend using these old brushes to shave with or should I not?
Bristle indicates boar. I have several vintage brushes with original knots still intact. I washed with an antibiotic hand soap, rinsed, then went to town. The only way to know if the knot is any good, if it isnt obviously degraded, is to clean it and use it. If the knot is garbage, it is very easy to replace.
Thanks! Know anything about the company? I couldn't find much with a simple Google search, just eBay postings and stuff about paintbrushes
The nice man also had 2 old SE razors (can't remember what exactly). He says he frequently gets old razor gear. Will definitely go back for more. Didn't have the funds to get the razors today
Just used the brush a short while ago. Performed very well. The hair is very soft. The knot is not that largest (maybe most a lot of hairs over the years), but I still loved it. Not going to reknot it, unless it loses a lot of hair, but I didn't lose any with this first shave with it
