I ended up ordering a Vie-long horsehair brush for my wife to use. I decided I would do a few palm lathers to get the smell out, which I am glad I did. Anyway, it felt a lot nicer than I had expected. I am considering using myself. Does anyone else use one?
I recently bought a VL 12601. I really like it. It is a bridge brush between boar and badger, but closer to badger.
I have two Vie-Longs, a barber brush and I forget the # of the other one. They work ok, but I like my bestshave.net #6 horse(?) hair better.
I have one, a VL, don't know which model#. meh... It stays in the dopp. It's a brush I won't miss if it disappears. Not bad, just not great either.
Mine is a little scritchy and it took a week or so to get rid of the stink. Being a horse, it is a novelty brush for me.
I have the one pictured above, I used it for my February focus. It stunk for a couple of weeks when wet. I shampooed it twice, and left the soap in it after shaving. After a couple of weeks the smell was gone. It was not as soft as my badger, but not as good as my boar for me. I bowl lather, but use the brush to really work it under the whiskers too. I will keep it in the rotation, but probably won't use it a ton. It works very well as a paint brush type to get a thick coat of lather on.
I have 2 Vie Long Horse Hair brushes in my rotation. I like the extra back bone and a little of scritch.
I have the Vie Long with the metal and wood handle. I haven't the faintest idea of it's official numerical name. But I love the thing. I am going to pick up one of their nicer horse brushes before too long. I have been eyeballing the olive wood guy. I vote for getting yourself one. An entry level Vie Long is a great brush, and cheap as chips. It's a magical combination.
I have several like 6 and keep three in my rotation. I just tonight let my wife test a boar brush and a 50:50 mane tail vie long to shave her legs and she gave me the boar brush back as soon as she tried the 50:50 horse hair brush
I have the same one as Jayaruh and while I like the horse hair, the handle is too small for me. I plan to get this one in the not to distant future but not necessarily from Amazon.
I have that one in the fan shape for face lathering. The handle is the nicest I've had on a vie long brush
I have a Badger, Boar and a V-L Horse. The Horse is my favorite, and if I buy one more shaving brush it will be another V-L Horse.
Could you possibly indicate which model is which, for those of us still researching horsehair brushes?
