Sorry it's a bit of a weird post. Trying to work out a UK value for a Rocket HD500. Unboxed. Decent condition. I only started DE shaving about a week ago and I'm currently attempting to follow some 30 day rule that people here pointed me to. However I'm looking forward to trying a few different razors once I'm ready. I'm hoping to effectively "borrow" a few razors by buying them at market value so I can re sell for the same money if i dont like that paricular one. I have an offer on an HD500 but I don't know if it's a little high. Easy to assess value in the American market as there are lots available on Ebay but there is not as much choice over here. Thanks
Oops. I didn't realise anyone would have an objection to the way I wrote it. Had never considered it like that. I'll change it now. I assumed my original title would help people avoid this thread if they hate this kind of question. Apologies.
Wow. Obviously haven't spent enough time looking through the forums... I wasn't aware people would be so against this kind of question. I want to get one to try it for a price which I can probably sell it again at if I don't like it. As someone new to this I would think that's a fairly reasonable question. It would be very easy for me to pay over the odds. Anyway, since it seems like a sore topic, if any Mod wanted to remove the thread please do. Apologies to anyone who wasted their time reading it.
Also i dont feel like that thread is the exact question I'm asking... I'm not looking to sell a razor, I'm looking to try and buy one at a fair price. Not an accidental weirdly low ebay auction price, nor a buy it now exceptionally optimistic price. Just a price that I can afford to try it and not ruin my chances of selling it if I don't enjoy it.
Thanks very much I've never done much international buying... I would have to pay 20% vat to import it through customs to the UK I think? Plus I'm assuming a seller would add a postage charge to that. Maybe $60-80 USD is a reasonable range? That's about £45-60. I also think based on looking at finished auctions on Ebay that ones already in the UK fetch a slight premium. I have been offered one through a friend for £50 and didn't want to be rude by saying I thought that was high...
No one is opposed to the question. I think what was left out from the others is that, part of the rules is not to include current eBay listings as part of the question. The reason for this is to prevent someone promoting a live current auction with the hopes to promote interest and increase bidding. So if I'm following this, your question is how much a hd500 worth? Well there is the typical answer " it's worth whatever a person will pay". lol I hate this answer but it rings true. But I will give you my opinion. If the razor is in good to great condition and has a good to great case, I would put the value at about $50. The razor alone in the same condition I would say $25-$40. It really depends. Now if you can get one for about $25-$35 with the case that's awesome. You can probably flip it and make a few dollars. If it's just the razor, I would try to stay at the $25 mark. Your not gonna get rich flipping razors, lol trust me I know! you may make a $ 1 or you may make $10. Thank you sir.
Thanks for the info. I didn't realise people did this with ebay auctions. Kinda makes sense that people don't like it. I'm buying in person so I hadn't really considered it! By your estimates there I would probably be paying a little too much at £50 even if the razors are hard to find in the UK. I assumed this was probably the case as it is not boxed and looks to be in good but not amazing condition, from the pics I have seen. Thanks again
I just bought 4 of them from overseas and shipping them here in the states and the average price I paid was 22 euros.now I paid nearly 40 euros to ship them here in the us. So you can find them.
Excellent. I will politely declined my friends offer and continue to look out for better deals. I just want to try as many different as possible and sell the ones I don't like
Thank you. I had seen some as cheap as £30 ish and I was a little unsure of they were normal or extremely lucky. I spotted one while I was looking at finished auctions earlier - Gillette English TV Special for £14.50 through auction, plus postage. It was in reasonable condition. Made me a little embarrassed as I bought one just the other day thinking I'd got a good deal!
If I were you, I would use the previous sold eBay listings as a guide. You don't have to buy from eBay either. Find local listings in apps or the paper where you are from. Another source would be asking your family or even your close friends. Sometimes razors are just laying around in an old box in an attic or under a cupboard. You could also politely inform your friend that the razors typically sell for less and let him know the range. He may offer it to you at a lower price
Sounds like a sensible response. Thanks. They're pretty hard to come across here. I have visited antiques shops and car boot sales this week but haven't come across anything really. I know others who have found excellent razors at these type of places so I'll keep looking. They just seem a little thin on the ground
Yeah I know what you mean. Here in the states we have antique/thrift stores , swapmeets / flea markets , garage / yard sale and estate sales. And I've been to quite a few and barely find anything. It depends on the density of the area you live in I think. If you live near a large city, it's a good chance that the stores are often picked through.
I buy Rocket 500HD in perfect condition for 40$ shipped. later I find everything (instructions and mint dispenser) some exerienced and knowledgeable guys from our forum and some guys that restoring razors estimated complet arround 100$
