Today I tried a sample of aos unscented cream (courtesy of jrod22). I liked it. But feel its inferior to the other creams I've tried so far. Real shaving co, co bigelow, tobs. Its a cream I've wanted to try since I started. It was a good cream but just seemed lacking to me. IMO doesn't live up to the hype or price tag. Does anyone else feel this way? Gonna use it again tomorrow just to make sure It wasn't user error somehow. If it was the only cream I owned I wouldn't complain it does what its supposed to do.

As with everything, YMMV. But, IMHO, AOS isn't overrated. It is, however, overpriced.

I dunno it was just a small letdown after using the tobs. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. I might have used to much water or something. It worked great don't get me wrong. Just seems like my real shaving co gives a richer lather. Tobs was just a hair better than the rsc.

:signs011: I've never use AoS so can't speak to how well its works, but I do find it over priced.....:)

A full tank of gas and lunch or AoS...a week of groceries or AoS....a new Edwin Jagger razor and 100 blades or AoS...when these are the comparisons that you have to make when deciding whether or not to buy shaving cream, then there is something seriously wrong.

I just think they are overpriced. I haven't tried any of their products.

AoS was, like many, my first exposure to "traditional wet shaving". Granted I never bought any, but it was the first product that I had heard of. Maybe because of the stores or online presence, not sure. The price is what has kept me away. I never really hear anyone raving about it, or see many in the Shaves of the Day.

I use AoS often. I thing their Lemon shave cream is the best, both in smell and action. It costs a little but it last a long time. The only thing I didn't care for at AoS was the preshaving oil. Didn't find much use for it. With that being said, I think they are a strong product line with high quality and the first in most cases to talk to folks about converting over to wet shaving. They must be doingsomething good as it would seem the wet shaving hobby seems to be picking up.

    Bofum!

I had AOS Lemon Cream, it worked quite well. It is expensive but you do get quite a bit in a tub. I did in the end pass mine along, mostly because I have too much product and primarily use soaps. I know your question was on the cream but I might stay away from their soaps (unless you can get the old tallow version somewhere); they've been reformulated and reports are that the new formulation is not as good (no personal experience from me on that though).

I'm not sure if AOS stores are a cause or symptom. Maybe they're getting some people back into traditional shaving or maybe they're in business because more people are doing it on their own and go there to pick up something occasionally.

Their prices are a little high but you're paying for the ability to go there and touch and smell the stuff before you buy it, which IMO is worth something. You can get a Merkur razor there for about $10-15 (+tax) more than you'd pay online but maybe it's worth that to someone who wants to hold a few in their hand before deciding.

Apparently AOS was bought by P&G (also the parent company of Gillette) in 2009. Not sure what that means but they're still in business so they must be making a little money. I think if P&G were looking to snuff out competition, they'd be out of business by now.

I had never even heard of AoS until after I had started in on traditional shaving and apparently there is even a store here in San Antonio. They may expose some folks early on, but they are most certainly not the main reason for the resurgence in wet shaving, I think the increasingly high prices of cartridges and the internet can take more credit for people seeking an alternative.

I picked up a tub of AOS Ocean Kelp cream. $25 is a bit steep, but I do like the scent and performance of it. I've been superlathering with VDH Deluxe and not only does it work well, but the tub should last a very, very long time. Being able to sample and smell at an AOS store takes a bit of the guess work out it. How much do you really save by ordering a less expensive soap or cream only to PIF (total loss) or try to sell at a discounted rate if you don't like the scent or performance? I don't think either way is going to save or cost money over the other. I've been using the AOS cream for about a month and haven't really even dented the tub yet. I'd estimate that I should be using this for well over 6 months. And, as has already been said above.......YMMV!

"Expensive", "Overpriced" are relative terms. Ten bucks to me may seem like $100 to someone else. Let's all be sensitive to that, please.

Yes, for me, AoS is overpriced, but not over-rated.

Not overpriced money wise. Overpriced in comparison to other creams. I wouldn't care if it was $50 dollars if it was the ultimate sc and works the best for me.

I think the general consensus on AoS is that while they are excellent products, it is difficult for most folks to justify their price tag. It's sort of like alum blocks, sure I COULD buy a GFT alum block for $20 and it would perform well and look nice enough, but is it worth $20 or is it overpriced? A Shavex alum block is 110grams, comes with a storage case, and costs half the price...but some folks will still opt for the GFT and see it as a better value.

AoS makes excellent products which last and perform, they are quite often locally available, and some folks will see this as combining to provide excellent value. Others, like myself, find more value in less expensive products...not necessarily because they are less expensive, but because we do not see the price of AoS being a match for its value. I have yet to hear anyone bashing AoS, they are simply pointing out that they are priced far higher than their relative value would normally merit. With that said, things are worth what people will pay for them and, obviously, people are willing to pay for AoS so there are an awful lot of folks who do see the price as being a match for the value.

I received a tub of the Ocean Kelp for Christmas (a great way to get it!). I found I use just over half as much product as I would with other creams and still end up with plenty of phenomenal lather. Based on my experience, when considering performance and amount required, I don't find it overpriced at all.

$25 for 5 oz of AOS vs. what...$11 for a 11oz bottle of KMF? $5/oz vs. $1/oz...is AoS worth 5 times as much per ounce as KMF? It is to me. For one thing, KMF takes twice as much product as average while AoS takes just over half has much product as average. Let's call it 2x vs. 0.6x so now we're at AoS priced at just 1.5x as much as KMF on a per/shave basis. Is the performance of AoS worth 1.5 times KMF? For me the answer is, "hell yes!!"

Thanks, that sounds like a great deal, but I have 4 tubes of it now and it just doesn't do much for me.
