.....when you get over ,say, 24mm? I'm inexperienced but it seems to me once you get there it's like the old body sized powder puffs. What say gents?

I have no experience with fan shaped knots, but they have their fans, no pun intended. :D

I have a bulb shaped 24mm silvertip. Although I like it very much, it has taught me that I would not want anything larger.

I think it has more to do with the grade of hair and the loft rather than the diameter of the knot.

I like fans, and have used fans as big as 26. No problems. My current fans are all 24 to 26.

I like my brushes with fan knots as well. I have a 24mm silvertip fan that is great. I set the knot a littler deeper then I do my regular knots to help keep it from spreading too far out. My 21mm fan is perfect for my tastes though.

Depends on how big you are & what you're shaving. Big fans are very useful for head shaving (& for legs). I don't recall guys using over a 26mm fan, but there are several who use 30-32mm bulbs to face lather...For extreme fans/flattops, Rudy Vey will suggest going down a size (or two) compared to your bulb-size preference.

:happy088: another vote for fan shaped. My #6 Horse has a 25mm knot and 50mm loft...

I can get a custom Frank Shave 26mm version of a Chubby 2 with a fan silvertip knot for $52.

The loft needs to be shortened on the fan shape IMO, how much depends on hair type.

    Hello there.

Those extreme flat top knots look crazy & weird. I'd expect them to bloom a ton. However, a standard fan or hybrid knot especially in 2-band can feel great at 26mm. That's the end if my experience though. Nothing larger is in my den.

    Cheers!
