I enjoy visting the various art galleries around the world as I travel viewing both public and private collections. Who do you enjoy the most ? Personally, I always return to the Frenchman Monet and the British artist Turner with his hidden sun and ships. I love the US artist Sargent as well. I always find the most peace in Monet's work.
I don't know much about art, but I do like Monet. In fact, when my ex (a Fine Art major) was in college, one of her assignments was to try to duplicate a painting by a famous artist. She chose Monet's Garden at Giverny. I still have it and it hangs over the mantle in my living room. I love that painting! Nicely done, Dear! It looks exactly like............this!
It's not an exact artist, but i've really been enjoying japanese watercolor lately. I find the simplicity and muted colors very soothing.
Van Gogh's Starry Night has always been one of my favorite paintings. Another of my favorite artist , Don McLean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkvLq0TYiwI Japanese watercolor is definetly pleasing to the eye, IMO, too.
Oh, and this artist here. I had a lot of these hanging up in my restaurant (years ago, folks). And yes, the regulars did ask about the name. I am honest to a fault though.
Great topic. I like some of the classical masters of art, but I'm a modern type of guy in the end. I met one modern american artist many years back, he inspired me to try my hand at it, I didn't find the success. But I ripped off one of his normal subjects to design a tattoo for myself. The artist being Michael Knott. Subject "Bunge Boy", My top modern american piece: Edward Hopper is my fave of all time
Melinda Beck: http://www.melindabeck.com/ Hieronymus Bosch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hieronymus_Bosch H.R. Giger*: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giger * a chunk of Giger's work is highly offensive. I like the stuff he did for the movie Alien, and some of his non-sexually explicit work.
am fond of the Impressionistas, as well. Monet ist goot.....sorry, no umlauts here ........................but seriously, folks. One of my favorites: Leroy Neiman
I agree, Alien is awesome! I visited the Giger museum in Gruyères, Switzerland a few years ago... and I was nauseated by some of his stuff... and then I even stayed out of the section that they had "warning signs" on... This man can't be all sane, I tell you!
Leonardo Da Vinci. The man was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, engineer, and scientist. It is hard enough to be a master of just one of those fields, let alone ALL of them!!
