1. to use a DE razor. Gillette has raised prices by cutting the number of cartridges in its pack. The article here says that the price for this is $13.00 for the now 3 pack?!?! And this is at Walmart! I haven't bought cartridges since the Trac II, so I am floored by this. Is that accurate? Does Gillette actually get so much money for these things? It boggles the mind.
  2. Yes they do, that's why i went back to my old de razor.now i'm getting better shaves for a heck of a lot less.
  3. To be fair, this is for the "top of the line" fusion cartridges. Others are significantly less. Last time I checked, Sensor cartridges were about $1 each and sold in 5, 10, and 20 packs. That's still much more than a DE, but reasonable IMHO. I also find the older 2-blade cartridges are the best shaving cartridges you can get. I've use a Mach 3 and it did last longer, but didn't shave as well.
  4. im surprised Costco doesnt start selling DE/SE handles n blades!...yet:D
  5. I can still get generic Atra compatible twin blade cartridges that work quite well for about fifty cents each. There aren't any generic Fusion cartridges, though, and anyway, Gillette is now coming out with still another new "system" which is going to cost even more.

Anyway, too late. I've rediscovered razors with just one blade.
  6. thats a rip off

it reminds me of printer ink.
  7. Does that mean I can tell people I'm saving on blades with a straight face?
  8. Hi All,

This is actually why I started looking at alternatives.

The local Walmart here had 3 Fusion cartridges for $9.50. I didn't buy it because I seemed to recall them coming in 4 packs. So when I got home I checked a pack I still have - 4 of them.

Started looking around a bit and yup, Gillette not only kept the same packaging, they reduced the cartridge counts by 1, AND kept the SAME PRICE as the old/higher count package. That sure was nice of them.

Anyway, the local Target still has a stock of the 4 packs - didn't buy any though since I just got a bunch of DE stuff on order :)

  9. Yep, lots of companies doing this lately. Guess they think consumers are too stupid to realize.
  10. +1 I think it does! At three or four dollars per cartridge, just one year of shaving with a DE has saved me enough money to pay for my whole shave den. I can't wait to tell SWMBO how much money we are saving every time I give in to RAD:D
  11. Step...I like the way you think! :D
  12. I've certainly noticed it with food items, like bags of coffee. And most of the rival manufacturers do it in concert.

They must expect that some people will notice, but that they won't be able to do much about it. Then, in a few months, people will just get used to the new smaller portions.
  13. Escalating cartridge cost is what pushed me to safety razor and I'm very happy it did!!!
  14. i switched to de because i was paying $16 for a 4 pack, $32 for an 8 pack. No discount on higher content packages. It's absolutley bizarre what they feel is acceptable to charge

*this was for my gillette 5 blade fusion
  15. I switched to DE because even the shavers for ladies are outrageous. Try the costs of some of the Venus systems-I used to pay $24 for a four pack of blades! And since I had to shave both my face and legs, well one blade only worked for a maximum of two shaves. No matter how you add it up, it's still about $96 a month in blades. With DE, I couldn't use $96 in blades for an entire year.
  16. Sounds like many of us where converted due to the cost factor of today's multi-blades...

And then to find out that the shaving with a SE / DE / Straight is even smoother is an absolute bonus :happy088
  17. I saw that the other day at Walmart. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. As bad as the economy is I wouldn't be surprised if more people convert to safety razors.
