Anybody have any comparisons of the two? What do you prefer and how is the RP when held up against a Feather blade? Also, anybody have a picture of what the box of an Israeli Red Personna looks like, so I could differentiate between the non-Israeli ones?
Here is a link to Red Personna blades. http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Red-Personna-Israeli-Double-Edge-Razor-Blades_p_273.html You might also find some that are either sold in a blue package or with the Crystal name which are also made in Isreal, but different from the red packaged blades. I'm not sure what your background with blades happens to be, but if you haven't tried a sample pack I suggest starting there. On RP compared to Astra, I'll say I like both of these blades much more than most. The Astra seems a little sharper, but can feel just slightly rough in my most aggressive razors. The Personna blades are always very smooth, but can tug just slightly in my most mild razors. How each will work for you is going to depend on the razor you're using and you face.
The Astra doesn't agree with my face, it's too rough in many of my razors. But the Red IP is an awesome blade to me, smooth and sharp. How does it compare to a feather ? Feather is so much sharper and has a tendency to dig in if your technique isn't perfect. Just my opinion. But blades are a YMMV thing...
I have both but tend to prefer the Astra lately. When I first started DE shaving I bought 100 Red Personas and used it regularly. The Astra seems a little smoother to me but I need to try the RP in some of my other razors. But blades are very personal and many like both of these blades. Try them and see for yourself.
Have and used both. Find both to be good solid blades. I believe I paid about the same for100 of each. Astras might have had free shipping at that time.
Have used both, Personna reds work for me Astra's just barely above average for me. Like always ymmv.
I have been using the Derby blades for about a week now, and have tried the Astra blades. The razor according to the seller is a Gillette super speed 1969, and the Astra blades tear my face up. Now granted since I am so new to the wet shaving that it is most likely my technique but the astras are seriously rough and left my face burning like crazy. EDIT* Going to have to correct this. Due to reading things on this site and other videos. It wasn't the razor. This was caused by my lack of good lather and inexperience. I shaved this weekend and was finally able to get that BBS shave with the Astra and I have yet to be able to get that with the derbys at all. Go Astras!
