I have just been given two very nice Valet auto Strop razors.. one looks like the one Dave uses in the how to use video on Youtube.. the other is one that has Valet cut out on the head with the piece the lifts up to put the blade in. Hope that explains it.. my question is.. which one is the model C. I have a case for one. I also aquired a strop. it needs to be conditioned.. I think I heard that Mink oil is good for that. I know pictures.. as soon as I can get moms camera I will do that.
Oh really? I thought they worked in all of them. That is good to know. Give them a shave Fuzzy they are very cool razors.
theres this one that has the hinge with the squares that the feathers wont fit. and the bar guard ones, aka the later models.
I have used one that you can modify the SE blades for .. remove the spine and such... that was fun. I will have to see about the other ,, but it looks good. I already had a case for it sitting on a shelf.. so that was nice.
Since using Dave's honing and stropping method,I've had a few very good shaves using nos Valet blades. The extra work makes a world of difference. Cheers Phil.
I haven't heard this Fuzzy. You are using new single edge blades? How do you pull the spine off? Other than feathers and this spine pulling thang, and of course NOS valets, what blades do you need to use the razor? I have one NOS blade and that is it. I am not sure what to do about that.
Dave actually has a few videos on youtube that deal with how to remove the spine and modify a modern SE blade.. it works great. Not that hard to do either. Fuzzy
I had not found those vids before. Absolutely perfect!! Thanx for the invaluable info Dave!! That is great the way you sorted out how to do that. thnx guyz (as usual you solve my probs!!):1respect
Glad we could help.. I actually like the shave from the valet with the modified blades.. about time to break it out again. Fuzzy
I imagine the Canadian strop is better?? (It is the cows you see. They freeze their asses of their whole lives. Makes em tough skinned!) :happy102
