I was turned on to Avon Spicy, many months ago, as a substitute for the Shulton Old Spice. I found it has a different smell when first applied, but after 5-10 minutes, it is very similar to Shulton Old Spice. There is a little difference but so little, the wife cannot tell. The best part about Avon Spicy is that it's readily found, for a quarter, or more, the price of the Shulton. My favorite is still Vintage Shulton Old spice, but Avon comes a very close second. I do have some Avon Wild Country, in a Flintlock bottle that I haven't tried yet. Please post opinions, of Avon Spicy, and other Avon Aftershaves.
Welcome. I have just become interested in the old Avon fragrances especially spicy, island lime, and wild country. There is a thread already about bottles. Please past your collection over HERE.
It came out long after Spicy, in the very late seventies I think, but it's a lot harder to come across in the wild.
I've pretty much given up on "The Wild". Not enough time, too far to travel, and too picked over, in the Houston area. EBay and Etsy have become my "Wild".
Avon Spicy is a great A/S and it is pretty close to original OS. The Avon Island Lime is another good one if you can find some, it is a bit harder to come across than others.
Ordered a 32 piece avon chess/aftershave set for $40 shipped after reading this thread. Has 3 ounces of Deep Wood, 33 ounces of Spicy, 57 ounces of Wild Wood, and one empty bottle. Had been eyeing Shulton OS and at this price almost exact is good enough. Bonus, the chess set will look awesome on one of the tables in my bar.
I think I saw that on EBay or Etsy. But, that was more aftershave than I needed. It should last you a while. Great buy.
Out and about this wekeend I came across many full, good priced Avons. Passed on them all because we're moving in a few weeks and don't need extra clutter, but there was a dune buggy for $2 that smelled really good. Label was gone but I think it was Bracing Lotion...very clean and straightforward, not very barbershop, nice. Good stuff, you don't see it too often. I shoulda got it but had my hands full as it was.
I got an Avon Blend 7 in a red Stutz car, and tried it. It reminded me a little of the Polo Green aftershave I used in the 80's. An hour after, it settled down to a Smokey smell. Then again that smell could have been the Homemade smoked pulled pork tacos I had for lunch.
