I did a search, but didn't find any post about "baby oil" as an after shave lotion.
Anyone use it, or should I stay away from it, and use witch hazel to stay "cheap"??
    Thanks.

    SO.. one thing I have always wondered;

Olive oil is made from olives.. Peanut oil is made from peanuts... Almond oil is made from almonds...

Now, what exactly is "Bayby oil" made from?

Baby oil is mineral oil with added fragrance.

I wouldn't recommend using it as an aftershave. I think it can be pore clogging. I might be wrong on that though,

Even if it werent pore clogging, I wouldnt suggest oil as an aftershave. Maybe a lotion with a little bit of oil, but not pure oil.

+1, you will need a cleansing agent for aftershave, hence alcohol being a major ingredient in many aftershaves, if you feel traditional aftershaves dry your skin, try aftershaves with allantoin (don't ask what it really is!)

    I don't know about that.

My daughter's doctor has me give her mineral oil if she hasn't had a bm in a couple days.

I think there would be a difference in taking a dose once for constipation and using it everyday.

Just Google "mineral oil health" to see some of the concerns.

Big difference between once a day and all the time. The vitamins made by the E. Coli in yoru intestine (B & D) may be dissolved and removed by mineral oil. But unless your ingesting it daily, shouldnt make a difference. Anywho, baby oil is meant for your razors, not your face.

Aftershaves are an astringent. They help to bring the skin back to a slighty acidic level after using alkaline soaps. They are also an antiseptic cleaning the pores of oil and other debris. After a hot shave the pores are open and you will not want to introduce an oil onto/into the skin.

Witch Hazel is an astringent and makes a very good aftershave. The Thayers come in scents such as rose and lavender.

    Just my opinion,

But not all aftershaves are astringents. I personally dislike astringents.

Yes, which can be substituted for other alcohol based products, propylene glycol? antifreeze? fo' sho. I dont need my face to feel like its wrapped in plastic. My skins tight enough as is. A little cold water does the trick.

Thanks for the help. It felt okay to start, but my face bugged me all day. I also didn't get a good lather that morning(no brush yet). I don't have an aftershave, but I'll look at Wal Mart tonight.

I would definitely recommend some witch hazel to start off with. The you can follow up with an aftershave or an aftershave balm (usually alcohol free - which is good for those of us with sensitive skin).

I picked a bottle of witch hazel and a brush at Wal Mart. Do I use the witch hazel and another after shave on top of it? or just use the witch hazel only, for now?

Since witch hazel is 14% alcohol, should I expect some burn?

You might get a little burn, but not as much as you would from most alcohol-based aftershaves.

Use the witch hazel first. Let it dry. Then apply AS or ASB.

I didn't get an aftershave yet, so the witch hazel will have to do the trick for now. What about using some aloe? After I use the witch hazel?
