Bad Shave Days

People say they've had a "bad hair day". What about a "bad shave day". I had one a couple of days ago. My shaves are usually at least satisfactory, very seldom do I nick myself or otherwise irritate my face. But then comes the off day when I get a few little nicks or sometimes a big one. It seems to set the tone for the rest of my day. I hesitate to do anything out of the ordinary on my bad shave days for fear of screwing something up. Can anyone else relate to this?

    Sorry. No.
Not bragging, just saying that I've reached a point with my technique and knowing my gear that I never have a bad shave, although some are better than others.

Bad shave days for me are new soaps that under perform or straights that need a touch up. Days like these are nice shaves instead of really nice or awesome shaves.

I'm not perfect and have an occasional bad shave day. It's usually when I try a new razor. It rarely happens with my "tried and true" equipment.

I'm in a similar boat with a GEM Micromatic Open Comb. I've had some subpar shaves the past week with it. I will experience a long string of nice shaves and then have a mishap and end up with a bad shave. So yes, it happens to me.

I really don't get bad shaves, but on occasion get shaves which irritate me. Even when I use the same type of razor and blade that has consistently been great. Maybe high temperatures and humidity contribute to that.

I went so long without having a bad shave day that when I nicked the edge of my lip on Monday it put me in a poor mood all week. I'm about half way healed physically and not even close to getting my mental mojo back. Did I mention hating cutting myself...:(

This is when it happens to me. Straying away from the tried and true results in increased chances of drawing blood.

I normally get irritation when pushing a blade too far cut myself rushing things because I need to get out the of the house.

Without the occasional bad shave, you cannot enjoy the good ones. I normally try to just move on and not let it affect the rest of my day.

Last 'bad' shave days I can recall was my first half-dozen or more shaves using my non-dominant hand with a straight razor for the first time.
My left (dominant hand) underwent surgery for CTS and was bound for several weeks. I decided to 'master' using my feeble right hand ONLY for the entire shave for a few weeks. The first few shaves were fairly bad— not so much blood but not very smooth even after 3 passes. It takes time to develop a 'feel' for an SR. By the start of the second week, I was getting slightly better results.

Generally, these days, a bad shave is either:

    1) I have used a blade too many times.

    2) I am trying a new SR/Shavette and blow the angles and scrape a bit. (similar to @HolyRollah "feel" commentary)

    DFS is the norm.

I never have a bad shave. Every shave is perfect. My skin feels great. No nicks, cuts, weepers or irritation. Women on elevators step forward to stroke my checks and comment on how nice my aftershave smells, while slipping their phone number in my pocket.

And if you believe that, I have some swamp land in Florida for sale.
