In my search for long lost & forgotten DE razors, I've noticed that there seems to be a good many that are in pretty sad shape. Many seem to have met with a high speed landing on hard floor, or some other incident that left them not functional, and to a degree, unwanted. I've been thinking for a while now that if there was just some way to carefully straighten these lost gems, somebody would probably use them. So, in effort to learn how to "heal the wounded", I've been working on a couple of damaged TTO razors I bought for not much. The first one is a Schick Krona. It looked to have been dropped and then an attempt to repair was made. I'm not 100% sure, but the repair attempt looks to have caused more damage than the fall. Anyhow, I've made some special tools, and I've got the Krona cleaned up and lined up. Here she is. Doors close evenly and at the same time now. The safety bar on one side looked like someone had taken a pry bar to it. It had a pretty bad bend in the middle and toward the right side. It isn't 100% perfect, but I think it's pretty close. Here's the end view. It looks to be straight now, but I'll shave with it in the morning and see how it all works. It's been a learning experience, but I'm getting better at knowing where to push, bend, and pry. The next patient is a Gillette X2 Black Tip. If I have any luck with it, I'll post more pictures. Right now it isn't looking too good...
Excellent!! What a "GREAT" idea!! That's just what TSD needs a resident razor repairman with know how and specialized tools.. If you can make a tool and figure out a procedure to repair bent combs, you'll have the OC guys beating a path to your door!
Thanks all. I know that some are beyond help, but over the winter I'm going to try to learn just what can be fixed, and what cannot. Honestly, I hadn't thought about open comb teeth. I've mainly been cogitating on TTO razors. But you have a good idea there. There is no reason why a person cannot be doctor to the TTO's, and dentist to the OC's at the same time. Thanks 178, I'll give it some thought. I guess I'd better school up on working with brass.
