Can anyone here recommend a really good cartridge razor that has at least three blades and does not pivot? I have looked at all of the nearby stores and have had no luck finding one, so I was planning to order a razor online. Thanks. Keith
I am wondering why you are looking for a three blade cartridge that does not pivot? I have used three blade cartridges and find that they offer no better shave than the twin blade Trac II system.
Oh, and by the way. Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
I tried a three blade cartridge razor recently and thought that it shaved closer, but I didn't like the fact that it pivoted. If nobody makes one that doesn't pivot then I will probably just stick with the twin blade that I use.
What he said. You might be surprised by how well a single cutting edge works. Personally, I like injectors. Assuming that you do want to stick with cartridge razors, though, I'd be surprised if you found a fixed head cartridge with more than two blades. It's hard to know for sure that something doesn't exist, but pivoting heads were introduced with the twin blade Atra in 1977, and seem to have become standard on all the models with more blades than that. Still, I could be wrong.
Depending on the pivot mechanism, it might be possible to wedge something in behind the cart that lets you immobilize it while still letting you eject it on New Cart Day (which for me is every other day ). Welcome, btw.
I agree with everybody here...A good DE might knock you out...I personally prefer an Injector...An I think the Trac II was the best cart system ever...In fact I dig em...I'd like to find a vintage all metal...Gillette still had their constituents best interest at heart at this time I believe...
Get one of the all chrome ones with the heavy handle. Cliffhanger Warning - Look in next weeks SoS for details!
Sorry for a slight hi-jack...just skip over this....BUT I liked the all metal Atra too...Does anyone make an all metal now? I've seen the metal and plastic, but I used to really like the all metal Atra, shape, weight, feel...After that Gillette lost me...
I have a plasticky Trac II (non-pivot) handle - I think it was Schick's - that I'll donate to the cause of converting someone to The Best Cartridge Razor Ever Made. PM me.
Keith: The Walmarts in the greater Toronto area have Bic 3 disposables which are fixed head triple bladed. They have a moisture strip on them as well. I haven't used them but might be worth a try, if available in your area.
A friend found a solid brass set at a garage sale for a dollar. NIB and all still wrapped. He gave it to me for my birthday, 70, and it takes TRAC II carts. The brush I guess is horsehair or something but it lathers nicely. I got some store brand, I think they are Personna, blades and gave it a try. I still prefer my DE and SE razors but this heavy brass handle has potential to stay as part of my shave den. In fact, I bought another 10 store brand blades today. Well, actually I guess they're carts, but I bought 10 more. Now I have 19 + 1 in the handle. I intend to keep it.
That's a nice birthday gift! The Trac II is a really great system, about like a double blade injector.
I have been looking for a non-pivot with more blades and the aloe strip. I cant find anything either. Years ago one of the best dermatologist in the country in Atlanta told me to use a razor with no pivot and with aloe strips and recommended the Trac II. I called them the other day for an updated razor since the Trac II's have gotten so expensive and so many new razors have hit the market. They just said no more than three to four blades with the aloe strip. I don't think they even know of one's other than the Trac II that doesn't pivot now. I would like to get a nice metal handle since the plastic one that I have used for 15 years is finally falling apart. And the best advice that I got from them is "there is a reason they are disposable. Throw them away after every shave." It has served me well. Maybe I will try the Bic 3 mentioned above.
