Hey there, hi there from near Puget Sound! I'm a female shaver and new to the whole soap & brush lather thing. I suspect my fella is trying to convert me because they were gifts. Of late, I've actually been considering switching to using something other than cartridge/disposables (I maaaaaaaaaay be a little intimidated) and would appreciate recommendations.
Welcome to TSD! I don't know that I can offer a lot of help, but I am sure some of the women members can. I can tell you I have converted my wife to using a DE, brush, and soap. She seems to enjoy it well enough.
. Hey, I know you! When you say you've been considering switching to 'something other,' where would you rank these variables in your thought process? Price/availability Learning curve relative to what you now use/ease of use Handle length/grip/girth/weight (especially important if you're typically shaving in the tub/shower) Appearance (nothing wrong with preferring a particular look, such as a particular color handle or similar).
Learning Curve Handle length/grip/girth/weight tied with Price/Availability Appearance for the welcome
Hi! My wife uses and loves her Pink Lady Gillette. Of course that doesn't mean you'll like it, but at least now you know of one option.
to TSD "mhari_dubh" I hope you enjoy it here. As the places your shaving seem to me at least to be MUCH harder to shave than my face I understand your being somewhat intimidated. May I suggest you try this. As real shave soap, preshave and technique are IMO just as important as using a "traditional" razor, why not use the soaps and some of the techniques(such as using gentle pressure) with your current razor and see how it improves your shave? That I'm sure will increase your interest in using "real" razors.
Welcome to the Den! I didn't convert my wife, she stole my Fat Handle Tech, which is a very mild razor. She said she used to steal her dad's razor when she was younger. Take your time and, unlike a cartridge razor, do not use any pressure. Let the weight of your razor do the work. Most of all have fun with it!
Glad that you landed here at TSD, Little Lady . I'm sure you will fit right in. Sounds like you have a good fella there. And please Mark YOUR location on the TSD map - instructions here.
