I have spent the past few months sampling different soaps, both tallow based and glycerin based. While the glycerin based soaps seems to agree much better with my face, neither of them work as well as Barbasol out of the can. The tallow based soaps irritate my skin very bad and I am tired of mediocre shaves. I want to try a shave cream. What is my safest bet?

I don't use a lot of creams, but Musgo Real and Speick are a couple that I thought performed well.

I found some Old Spice lathering cream at my Indian grocer's that I like quite a lot.

You can pick up some C.O. Bigelow at your local Bath & Body Works.
    It's rebranded Proraso.
It is mentholated, so if you're not a fan of menthol...

Inexpensive options are to buy some ARKO or Derby creams (any Turkish shop should have either one). Or more mainstream, some Palmolive or Nivea (not a fan of Nivea myself).

Since C.O. Bigelow / Proraso Green contains eucalyptus oil, I stay far away from that stuff. YMMV of course, but it's pretty harsh for me.

I keep a few on hand: La Toja, Proraso Blue, Speick, Italian Palmolvie Menthol, Coate's. All are excellent IMHO.

I like the Taylor of Old Bond Street Creams. Sandalwood is my favorite. It is a best-seller on Amazon, so that might tell you something. I hope you find a cream that works great for you!

Palmolive Menthol and Classic, Nivea, or some of the Arko creams are hard to beat. There's also nothing wrong with Proraso Green or Blue.

I pretty much stick to TOBS and Truefitt and Hill for creams. I believe they are the best overall.

I started off with glycerin shave soap and was not happy with it. I looked into Shave cream "COL Conk high desert Breeze Shave cream" and I am super satisfied with it. You must use a brush to create a good lather. My wife bought me a brushless cream made by Kiel's with hair raiser formula and I use it when I am short on time and do not need to create a lather. This brushless shave cream is great, but I enjoy using the brush.

I've purchased three Cremo products, used two myself. The Lady Cremo went to my Lady friend. I like the regular & cooling formulas. They do lather, and work well in a superlather with other soaps. Found in Walmart & Kroger for less than ten bucks per big ole fat tubes.
C.O.Bigelow is another cream I find acceptable.
The scented wax room freshener folks at Scentsy sell several different creams. The afore mentioned Lady bought me a tube that I got a shave from. Then she wanted to try it. I haven't gotten it back, I think she likes it. At $20 per tube it's a little rich for my budget.

I bought Derby Lavender from ebay and that will be here in a few days. I also took a bunch of samples of Dove Men+Care from the gym I work at today. I'm going to shave with it either tonight or tomorrow.

Nivea shave cream would be my choice. It is available in most stores, inexpensive and slick. Just a "no drama" shave cream.

I just bought a tube of the original formula Cremo (at HEB's for less than 6 bucks for a 6oz tube)...gonna try it tonight. They also had VDH for like a buck more, but, as usual, I went the cheap route.

If they still have the deal on th vintage Coates cream, itd make a good base for shave cream selection.
