Hey everyone, So I'm just wondering what's the best shave soap on a budget? Like right now I've been using Van der hagen shave soap as the store here had it on sale and I'm not sure if they'll get any back in stock or not. (Hopefully they do!) But.. Incase they don't like what's the best affordable on you can get on a budget like on amazon or other websites?
Arko. What else? Extremely well performing and cheap. The scent isn't for everyone Gesendet von meinem 2109119DG mit Tapatalk
Check out Stirling Soaps. Best bang for your buck soap that's out there. Great folks to deal with too. Sent from my SM-A526U using Tapatalk
Dove Mens +Care 3 in 1 ( the one with the razor on the package) about $1.50 for long lasting bar. I shave and press a bar into a ceramic bowl and I get a quick lathering long lasting, hydrating, very slick lather. I like it just as much as my Kilo of Cella or bowl pressed Arko
Let me add Cella 1kg block. 20€+- for a kilogram of excellent almond soap isn't that expensive Gesendet von meinem 2109119DG mit Tapatalk
If scent isn't a factor. I know some do like, or at least tolerate, the skeeter-be-gone scent. I don't. I have used it. Easy to lather, nice slick lather that doesn't disappear on you like "new" Williams. My opinion, VDH Deluxe beats it. But that's me.
I've tried the regular Van Der Hagen Shave Soap, many years ago. I was very unimpressed. I will have to try their Deluxe version. At $8 a puck, it better be 3x better than ARKO.
Nothing wrong with VDH at all; many of us all know it and may have started on it. Arko is fantastic, so long as you don't mind the scent. William's works for many, but not all, and good luck finding it. But, yanno what? For just less than $10.00 USD, and for my money, I suggest the Nivea Body Shaving Stick. Not just the cost and no offensive scent, the Nivea just plain works. Lots of lather, very moisturizing; just get a stick!
Deluxe or Luxury? I used to get the Deluxe (2.5 oz) for $1.50 at the BX/PX at McGuire AFB, NJ. They stopped carrying it years ago. Have only seen it at Hannaford's grocery stores in NH and ME these days. Goes for less than $3. I always grab a puck or two when I'm up that way to see Mom. The Luxury (3.5 oz) is still available at our local Shop Rite here in NJ for $5, occasionally on sale for $4. It's the only shave soap I can still get at a brick and mortar 'round here. Walmart may still carry the Luxury, but I haven't been in a Walmart around here for quite a while; they've gotten rather unkempt and trashy.
I guess I would have tried the Luxery, in the past. I will keep my eyes open for the Deluxe version at local stores. But, my ARKO will be hard to beat. To me, Williams has a strong scent of Citronella, which I never liked. Arko scent isnt unpleasant. .
Arko. I use Stetson AS for this soap. I take a slice off the stick about as thick as a silver dollar, stick it well to the bottom of a mug by rubbing it down good. Add a few drops of Stetson to the mug, add water and mix as usual. It doesn't take the smell away totally. I do find that my nose ignores the more nasty scents emitted from the brand. The lather is as good as it always is. Stetson is locally available here in my neck of the woods too. tp
Here is my ranking Clubman Classic Barber Shave Cream (Worst, no lather, runs, but does protect.) 1.5/5 Clubman Shave Soap (Better, smells okay, very bland and boring but does later a bit. This one does the job) 3/5 Stirling Soap Barbershop (Better than Clubman. Rich and thick, but could later a bit better. A bit expensive. Good Shave. Smells amazing) 4/5 Proroso Tube Stuff (Similar to Stirling, a bit less expensive, requires a bowel, Good Shave, Smells good) 3.5/5 Proraso Bowel Soap (Lathers slightly better than Stirling. Rich and thick, less expensive, Excellent Shave, also smells amazing) 4.5/5 Taylor of Olde Bond Street (Best Later by far, only takes a small amount, same protection as Prorasso, Priced less than Stirling, smells amazing. Could dip the brush once and probably shave a Golden Retriver!). 5.25/5. Best shave in the world in my opinion.
Another Turkish soap that is inexpensive and works like Arko is More For You Shave Soap. To me, it smells and works just like Arko but at a better price.
For a bargain price and solid performance I go with Arko. Who doesn’t love the smell of Lemon Pledge?
