Between a Headshave and a Tight Buzz

I find that my hair looks good and surprisingly healthy about 3 -4 days growth from a full headshave. By a week's time, it is looking sloppy again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep my head groomed in the "sweet spot" that won't break the bank.

    I sure haven't...
I don't completely shave my head; I use a clipper on the '1' setting. It seems a little short for my taste initially, but like you said after a few days it's in the 'sweet spot' where I like it. But then, a few days later, it starts looking longer than I want it to and I have to retrim my head back to a '1'. I try to buzz my head on the weekends since I have more time.

I actually look good with a shaved head but it is a little more avant guard than I want. An even layer of a few days growth softens the look. I do play around with the Remington Short Clippers but it just doesn't give the attention to detail that I like in terms of being well groomed. That leaves the barber; however weekly visits gets a little pricey but at times are necessary.

My clipper has a lever on the left side that allows additional adjustment of either long or short. I don't use a guard either and do my head about once a week.

It's funny I'm actually reversed, I like the just clipped look with my 1/16th of an inch cut on Sat. As far as the sweet spot your looking for I'd get an adjustable set of clippers and try the long and short settings with the different guards, I'm sure you'll find your setting.

All good ideas. This is going to be a trial and error process that is probably suited for the weekend when I have the luxury of a little extra time. I think it is time to visit my favorite Walmart and find good adjustable clippers.

I've got an Oster Classic 76 clipper with blades ranging from 2 to 00000. This is your classic barbershop clipper that will last you a lifetime. No plastic guards to deal with. No misaligned blades. Worth every penny! Btw- the 00000 looks exactly like my two day growth after a DE headshave. You won't be able to get that close with a Walmart clipper.

The precision you're looking for will only come with high end clippers, as was implied by Chris above. Sally's Beauty Supply has a good selection and good prices for professional clippers. I had buzzed my hair for a few years before I started shaving it and was seriously considering better clippers after going through a couple Wahl clippers (but I decided to shave it instead).

You might try to find a barber who can do it well and try to get clippers as similar as you can at a reasonable price.
