New to The Shave Den, so my first post... I've been straight razor shaving for years but have just started trying DE shaving. I have accumulated several DE razors now I'm trying to find my birth year razor which is 1950 third qtr. I have read that Gillette started date code with V3 in 1950. After searching about every source I know of I've yet to see a V3. Are these razor just a rare item, or made in small numbers and I'll never see one? Help please!
I think at least with most razors, Gillette didn't start date coding until '51. So the Super Speeds without a date code could be '48-''50. Well, '47 too but you can ID those by the lack of notches in the center bar. I have an NDC Super Speed and Milord. Both good shavers.
Yeah, what he said. I finally got my '47 Super Speed with no notch. Other SS without a code would be '48-'50. Those are easier to acquire. You just won't be certain of the year. Good luck on your search.
I guess that I lucked out. My first Razor I got off of e-Bay was my birth year. I have found several others. I also am looking for a Fat Boy 195 adjustable. But the people that are selling them seem to think they are worth their weight in gold. But in my eye I don't think so. http://goldprice.org/
V-3 was indeed the first 1950 Date Code. They are rare. Two 1950 V-3's have shown up on the bay in the past three weeks though. Be careful though.........V came back around for 1975. Date codes link: http://www.gillettedatecodes.com/
I -4 is pretty hard to find right now. All those darn recently turned 50 year olds trying to recapture/capture some sort of nostalgia just burn me up! Wait, I fit that description. Carry on. Don't mind me....
