I see that many people like to shave with their birth year razor during their birth month. Being 21 I don't believe I have that luxury, I was born in 1994 and I have researched and found that sadly 1994 was when Gillette invented the sensor excel cartridge razor. I could not find any DE or SE invented during 1994 so am I out of luck? If anyone knows of a 1994 razor I'd be happy to know. Also when did the big companies stop production of safeties?

Here's a helpful website that shows Gillette razors manufactured by year.

Its the curse of being young. No birth year piece of amazing shaving iron.

How about getting your dad's or granddad's birth year razor?

Fortunately (or unfortunately) im old enough to be able to select from a few different models, but if I were too young to have one of my own I would consider getting my Father or Grandfathers birth year.
Edit: Danger beat me to it. I'm too old to type apparently.

The British made Gillette DE's long after the Americans stopped. The last American DE was made in '87. The Brits made them until '95-96 if I remember right.

Edit: yep. You'll need to pick up a British made G1000 with the 'O' date code. It's the same thing as the Slim Twist or Knack here in the States.

Thanks Jim. Every time I use my Gillette New LC, I think about my dad. He could have started out shaving with that model razor. One day, I hope to get his birth year razor (1915).

What you need to do is think Birth Era Razor.

I have a birth year razor for my mom's birth year. I'm not very sentimental, I got that year accidentally. I would like a war era tech in the case but I'm not foaming at the mouth for one. It'll show up for me at some point for a steal of a price and I'll nab it.

Doesn't have as nice of a ring to it. I might go with my grandpa's birth year. But I'll look into it

As everything else, this is YMMV, but my humble opinion is that birth-year razor is overrated. Somehow I also find it a bit selfish to need to celebrate own birth with each shave rather than any dear family member.

But that is just my opinion...

I can see how you think that but it wasn't about that with me. I just found something I enjoy in wet shaving and I liked the idea of having a razor that was made when I was born just as something special to me. I just thought it would be cool to have.

A birth year razor is no different than any other razor except that it is from your birth year. That is what makes it special to you. It may be the worst razor ever made, but it is from your birth year. It is just kind of cool. That's all. It has been around as long as you have, unlike the throw-aways taking up space in landfills.
