I've been DE shaving for about 3 weeks now. I just received some blades and was wondering how they rank in order of aggressiveness or experience needed. I will be using a Gillette long handle super adjustable. The blades are Gillette 7 o'clock Sharp Edge, Astra Superior Platinum and Wilkinson Sword. The Wilkinsons are made in England and about 30 years old but they look perfect. Found them in the back of a drawer in my parents home.

Just as long as you remember that blade choice is such a YMMV thing, and you will surely get just as many opinions as you have choices.

If it was me I would start out with the Astras, as I have found them to be very smooth for me, the Gillette's were too harsh for my skin. I really can't give you an opinion on the Wilkinson's, but from reading a review I would believe them to be the sharpest of the 3 choices.

The Wilkinson's were my choice 30 years ago. :D I've used some within the past year and they are still good.

Haven't tried the old Wilkinson's, though the old ones have a better reputation than the new ones. But both the Astra's and 7 O'Clocks are great blades IMHO. In most razors I prefer the Astras. You won't go wrong either way. I'd save the older blades until you've used several others and have really good technique. Since you can't get more of the older blades, I'd make sure you appreciate them for all they are worth when you get the chance to try them out.

Not too many blades to pick from. I'd grab a sample pack with at least 5 kinds of blades as well as what you have. I do agree to start with the Astra's.
