I read the article with instructions on stropping an SE blade on the heel of your hand but can't seem to locate it right now. Anyway my question is: Can't I use a nice wide leather belt and achieve the same if not better results? If so which side of the belt and at what angle should I being stropping GEM SE blades at?
I normally give mine about 10 laps as opposed to Dave's recommended 5. Stropping like this prior to each shave, I've gotten a good 3 weeks of shaving from a SE blade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogq4wfpT7hc
I have some friends which they usually strop their blades 20+ times depending on the friction quality of the blade..I also was told the Single Edge blades strop easier then DE blades..in the end...YMMV..if it works..stick with it and good luck! ek.310
Personally although yet to attempt it, I would try and recreate the same forces and angle I create when I strop my open razor to strop a DE blade. Maybe you could find an angle by laying the DE on a perfectly flat surface and seeing if you could use a fingernail to press the bevel flat thus showing the angle to strop at.
