I have been reading with interest the comments on blades. I know blade choices are a personal choice. I think I need to go the next level in blades, the blades that in the upper tier. Blades that are sharp, comfortable, low irritation. Gentleman what are your thoughts.

Astra superior platinumwork really well for me:), my number 1 blade upto now, althogh the voskhod you sent me where great on the first shave so smooth the 2nd and 3rd not as good (but still better than what the derby give me), the astra are good for 4 shaves for me.

Voshkods are good, but IMO Feathers are the best for me. A new Feather and I have to look at the razor to see if I remembered to put the blade in it. Derbys also work well for me, even though there are many who would not agree. So, you are right, it's all about personal preference. Sample packs are the easiest way, I would think.

Try some Kai and both blue and black Gillette 7 O'Clock if you have not already done so. Feather are nice, but I think you have already tried them? If you can find them, Gillette Bleue Extra are quite nice!

For sharp, comfortable, and low irritation, I like:
Voskhods, Rapira, 7 O'clock (yellows, black, blue and even green); Supermax Stainless.

    +1 for the Iridium Supers.
Also, Astra Platinum work for me as well, but not the Stainless ones, those always tear my face to shreds. I look forward to trying Voskhods, and Gillette 7 O'clock yellows as well.

That goes back to what I said, it doesn't matter what I think is good. "Good" is in the face of the shaver.
The best advice I can offer is to purchase the largest sample pack you can afford. Only after trying several different blades will you find what is good for you.

  12. I go a little good 'all the blades, some are better than others. Surely Personna Platinum and Gold Wilkinson do a great job, but they are also good Lord stainless super, Muster super platinum and Platinum Plus Satinex 2000. Large blades!

Does anyone have a recommendation of a good trial pack of blades to try. Maybe something on Amazon that has 6 types or so in it. I'm hoping someone will know a trail pack that all the blades in there are quality blades and I can just let me face choose the best. Crystal Super+ Platinum are what I currently have and my face is not too happy with them. I'm using a Merkur 180 if that helps.

I just purchased the trial pack they have for sale right here on this site. I just followed the Store link at the top of the page

"Quality" means different things to different people. If I don't like a blade, for me, it's not a quality blade. Only by trying a blade for yourself will tell you if it's a quality blade or not. Sorry, but that's how it goes with blades.
As I said earlier, sample packs are the way to go. Try our own TSD store (link at top), BullGoose Shaving, ShoeBox Shave Shop, West Coast Shaving...

Thank you, I totally missed that there was a blade sampler in the store on this site. I'll likely be ordering the 33 blade sampler soon.
