No this is not a rant. I am simply wondering if anyone has any experience with brushes from blankity-blanks.com particularly the premium grade or select grade badger brush heads?
Any DIY members here that make their own brushes?

Heres the website (scroll down for brush heads):

    Thought? Opinions?

Never tried one,I love the burl woods though....the look great. The loft of the knots makes them look like they may be lacking the density and firmness I seem to prefer....don't know though..

I wonder if they could make the handles with the knots set further into the handle to increase the firmness / backbone of the knot.

Think he made a few posts on the "Sales Board" over at RazorandBrush.com
forums. You might find out more about what he's doing over there. The handles are lovely indeed. If the craftsmanship extends to the knots he's using could be a mi-tee fine tool.

One of the stores here in Austin brought in a handfull of them for a short time. I checked them out, didn't buy one, so although I can't speak to the functionality, I didn't think they were all that.

The knots they use are premade. Hair doesn't seem to be bad quality but the knots are not real well done. The one I picked up felt like they used a huge gob of apoxy to set the knot. When I squeezed the brush to gauge the density it felt like there was a big ball of hardened glue in the middle.

The handles look nice but I didn't care for the feel of them.

    Good to know Mike, thanks!

Don't like hearing that the middle of the knot felt like a hardend ball of epoxy

I don't even own a brush - yet; so I am just checking whats available. Because I have access to a nice wood shop with lots nice equipment I thought there could be a possibility of building a nice brush.

From my short time here it sounds like Mike has lots of experience with brushes and since I have been reading and digesting the information in his post "Discussion on Shaving Brushes with Charles Roberts" I was hoping he'd chip in here. Thanks Mike.

    I will continue my search.

Thank you everyone for the informative replies.

I owned one for a few days, it wasn't bad, but did not have the same density as, say, a Rooney. This could have been partially due to the quite long loft the brush had, but other than that it was not bad at all.
