I have used several Bluebird blades now and I wanted to record my observations. Blade choice is very personal and it is hard to make absolute statements, so I'll give some comparisons to other blades that I have used.

Bluebird blades appear to be manufactured by the same company that makes Derby blades. Packing is identical except for the name and logo.

These blades can be found for bargain prices in bulk ($14-15 USD for 100), priced similarly to Derby and Astra blades. The pack I tried was a PIF that Joanna included in a TSD order. Thanks Joanna! :signs001:

Setup: I tried the Bluebirds in a EJ DE89 and in a vintage Gillette fat-handled Tech. I used both TSD soap and AoS soap.

Compared to Derby: Bluebirds are a much more pleasant shave than a Derby. Smoother, less tugging and irritation.

Compared to Voskhod: Similar results. Both blades are relatively smooth, no irritation. Bluebird is perhaps a little sharper, and lasted a bit longer. I can get a good 4th shave out of a Bluebird, but I have learned to discard a Voskhod after 3 shaves.

Compared to Astra SP: Similar results, similar in sharpness. Astra feel a little more harsh to me, in the same way that Feather blades are harsh.

Compared to Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (dark blue): These are my current favorite blades, noticeably smoother than the Bluebird, and lasting longer -- I easily get 5-6 shaves from a 7 O'Clock blue. Of course, these blades can cost twice as much as Bluebird!

Conclusion: Bluebird is a good blade at a good price, certainly worth a try.

Thanks for the great post. I came across some of these last night and almost bought them. I think I will buy them now.:happy088:

These are certainly a good blade, though for me not a favorite. They have enough fans to be worth a try for those who haven't.

Just for perspective, I find Bluebirds most similar to the Crystal Persona (AKA IP) blades, but slightly less smooth.

Great post and :signs107: in reviewing these blades.

Bluebird blades, slip under the radar of blades to use. They are not often talked about good to see a good review of them. Personally I enjoy the shaves the blades give.
