Hi all, has anybody had any dealings with body shop maca root shave cream, I got given a small sample yesterday and tried it this morning, not like a conventional cream where you have to whip it into a lather in a bowl, this is applied straight to a warm wet face with the fingers or a brush, it produces a very thick lather which seems to be very slick and provides a good cushion for the razor. according to body shop the peruvian maca root also has skin conditioning and moisturising properties. Don't know if it is any better or worse that any other cream as I don't have much experience with this sort of thing. Just wondered if anybody else has used it and what were your thoughts on it??????. Regards. Ian.
That stuff is made to be lathered and it's one of my favorite creams. Mine is up for next week as a matter of fact.
I have been a fan of both the Old formula Body Shop cream and the newer Maca Root Cream I use it the same as any other cream though with a brush, keep in mimd I am a Straight Razor user so I might do things a little different
Just tried a tube 8.50$US eBay with free shipping from Hilo HI. Nice product. Shave excellent(no side effects yet!!!) -).
Whips up into a fantastic lather using a brush. And I like the scent, as well. Makes for a very good shave.
Its a good cream. I have tried it a few times....but still have some of the original Body shop cream to finish. Anyone know if it is a Creightons product?
I just used it for the first time last weekend. It lathered quite as well, with a brush, the final result was an excellent shave. I'll definitely be using this in the future. I love that we have The Body Shop nearby, and that their tube cost the same per ounce as their tube.
I don't recall if it's a Creighton's product, but it is made in the U.K. for The Body Shop. You will not find this cream selling under any other label or company. The scent is pleasant, it lathers easily with hard or soft water, is among the slickest of the creams on the market, is available locally, doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy, and routinely sells with a buy 2 get 1 sale, both in store and online. While I prefer TSD creams these days, Maca root was my main shaving cream for years and I still buy a tub of it when my current tub gets below half full. Of all the creams and soaps I have tried, Body Shop shave cream is the most moisturizing of them all. I have found a few that were as slick, but not many.
Brian, I tried the older version of Body Shop. I found the lather to be magnificent and the skincare to be absolutely fabulous. The scent however, did not please me. If it did, I would have been using it on a more regular basis.
The skincare is great but I have to put serious effort into getting good lather out of it. I think this is the stuff I realized what YMMV meant. I only use it about once a month just because I see it sitting there and know I haven't touched it in a while.
You are the first person I have ever heard of that has trouble getting a good lather out of this cream. How are you building your lather?
Couldn't face lather at all. Bowl lathered I can get a decent lather out of it but it takes way more effort than any other soap/cream I own. I've tried boar, badger, and the TBS synthetic. I've just learned to live without it. Plus there isn't a Body Shop near me so it's not like I'm out of a local buy or anything.
Thanks for the update. I can only guess that it must have something to do with the water where you live. I get effortless lathers out of Maca Root.
Yeah, that is strange. I used a TBS synthetic and could get good lather, and I have terribly hard water. Now I use a Muhle synthetic and things are even better. It would be intriguing to me, seriously intriguing, to see how the next guy goes through his paces to prep and shave. We're all obviously doing things so differently from one another, though we all have heard similar tips and instruction.
I have city water and it is a little hard. Also I think the pH is high if I remember. I bought a fish tank a long while back and even after letting it run for a whole month without fish and using all the treatment stuff it would never even out. I even tried a few different live plants, when it seemed at its best I put a single goldfish in and it died within a few days.
