Well been a while has it not?

On deployment I read Fight Club. Great book, I liked it better than the movie (oddly enough they are doing a movie based on Choke by the same author and that was a great book as well).

I also read I Am Legend. Way better then the movie, in fact the book was more like The Last man on Earth and Omega Man (the 2 other movies based on the same book).

I am about to watch No Country for Old Men, that was also a great book and I hear a great movie too.

I watched "I Am Legend", a few weeks ago. It was a good flick. I'm a sucker for zombie, or human mutant type movies. I recommend "The Perfumist" as a good movie to watch. It has an odd plot, and kinda has one's head turned sideways after watching it.

Charlie Sykes - 50 Rules Kids Won't Learn in School: Real-World Antidotes to Feel-Good Education

Charlie is a local talk show radio host here in Milwaukee - I highly recommend this book to anyone with teens to early 20 year old kids. My son who happens to be 20....failing college, no job, no vehicle, debt collectors after him, etc was given this book by me. I am quite certain it did not help the situation and as he no longer lives at home because we have unrealistic expectations.

    Here are a few examples:

    1. Life is not fair. Get used to it.

    3. Sorry, you will not make $60K a year right out of high school. You will not be a Vice President or have a company car. You may even have to wear a uniform that doesn't have a designer label.

    7. If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you have a boss. He won't have tenure so he'll be a bit edgier. When you screw up, he's not going to ask how you feel about it.

    19. It's not your parents' fault. If you screw up you are responsible.

    32. Television is not real life.

    38. Look people in the eye when you meet them.

    49. Don't forget to say thank you.

There are MANY other good points written in this book. It's not a tough read & it may be insightful to some in need of direction.
