Yes, you read that correctly. After reading thousands of threads extolling the virtues of XYZ blades, it's about time (it's been years) we get to gripe about lousy edges. No, not merely mediocre and middling or just okay. Downright bottom half of all blades. Blades you'll never use again. Of course, stipulated that YMMV, opinions and experiences will differ. That's why we're here on this forum. Not sharp? Not smooth? Don't last long? Inconsistent? Dull? Terrible in my favorite razor? Prior editions were degraded by changes? What say you? Thank you!
Flying Eagle - the only DE blade I was unable to get at least a DFS from. Van Der Hagen - both rough and expensive, a double whammy.
Ditto. For me, anything with platinum. Irritates the crap outta me no matter how good the shave was otherwise.
while i don't think i've had problems with platinum vs teflon type issues, the derby's just tug like they are too dull.i still change my product around too much to know for sure..
The only razor I've seen do a good job with a Merkur blade is a UK Gillette Aristocrat Jr. Strange that a Merkur razor can't.
I never minded them. Unfortunately, a lot of the opinion of these blades is based on the banged up blade included with the new razor that is used by a noob. They are expensive and there are a number of less expensive blades I prefer, but the Merkur gets slighted more than it should.
I ended up with a bunch of tucks as part of a trade a number of years ago. I used them, but have never felt the need to replace once finished though.
Been many years since I dabbled with different blades but the only one I remember that stood out as flat out aweful were Van Der Hagen blades you could buy at Walmart.
7:00 a.m. is hands down the worst blade I’ve tried. Also, contrary to many, Voskhod blades give me a terrible shave. I’ve tried these blades in several razors without a good result. I have a fairly tough fast growing beard, not especially sensitive skin.
