Had a freak accident this morning and my Old Spice mug (dating from the 1970's or 1980's --- def not a rare one) that I have had and used since 1992, fell off the shelf this morning and broke in my sink. Odd thing is that I don't recall touching it at all, it just fell. Oh well, off to Dollar General later to find a replacement.

RIP to teh Old Spice Mug. Perhaps now would be a good time to try the self watering violet pot from Wallyworld?

We will have a ceremony in your mugs honour!

    May it rest in pieces!

    That sucks.

Good Will or thrift stores often have some cool mugs for under a buck.

I concur, the only issue might be what cream or soap we can all agree on...

the last thing we need is a smelly send off!

Good idea, but it was smashed well beyond repair...many small pieces.

I did get roughly 18 years of good use out of the mug, most recently as a lathering bowl for my creams and Tabac. I plan on buying a soup mug with a handle for $1-2.

What is this pot you speak of?

it's a self watering pot, basically a pot within a pot, than some have creatively made use of as a makeshift scuttle

I took a lot at these pots at Homer this past weekend... pretty large and heavy!

Think I'll be sticking with my bowl for the time being!

Sorry to hear about your loss, Jeff. My condolences.
Hope you find a suitable replacement quickly.

Yea, that's the one from Wally World. I have one and use it every now and then. I may use it more in the cooler months.

Rockrabbit, if by "Homer" you mean "Home Depot", then, yea, they (and Lowe's) only carry the large ones.

Yip, Home Depot is called Homer round these parts... no idea why.. just is!

Now the better question, who is "Wally World"?

    Breaking shaving mugs?

Fortunately, I have not broken any of my Old Spice shaving mugs. I did manage to drop and break the handle off my favorite yellow coffee mug that I used for shaving.

It sounds to me like you need to buy one of the William Marvy, Green rubber, shaving mugs. They were specifically designed for barber shop use. They bounce when you drop them and never break. The shape/style of the green rubber mug is kind of old fashioned looking and fits into the antique razor/brush shaving that we do. I bought mine for use when shower shaving. After trying that for a few shaves I decided shower shaving was not for me. I now use the Marvy mug with some Williams soap in my rotation.

Atlanta Barber and Beauty Supply carries them. They are around $10.95, plus shipping.
