Brush knot making tools

    No problem. I'm probably the best guy to go to for info on vintage knot making. The other guys who have done the same research either make their own knots or order them from China. They are not out to help the competition anymore.

    I looked into it enough to decide that the most cost effective way to do it, is to order the knots from the Chinese hair factories, custom made to your specifications, in other words, over-stuffed. If they cheat, and use treated hair, then you wind up with coveted gel tips or hook tips, and you can charge a premium for that as well. It's a win for everyone.

    It helps if you have a friend who speaks the language. Heaven Horse or Ace Shaving was believed to be the source of the knots for New Forest brushes, but the owner never did reveal his source.

    Just remember, all the guys who have made their own knots said the first ones they made all looked like crap. You've got to make a lot of them before you will be "good" at it.
