What speed are you turning at? I’m a ‘middle belt’ (approx 1500 rpm) for the main work, but speed it a gear for sanding and slow it to 800rpm or so for using a sawtooth bit for the hole or for parting it off.

I had it turned back on slower side so I'm guessing around 800 or around there . I turned the oak between 1200 and 1700 and it tore out bad also. My carbide may be dull. I drag it way down for boring hole to about 500.

Thanks Danny. This is the longest brush I've made yet . Handle is 80mm and fits my hand like a glove .

Thanks Jason. I used a very thin guage guitar string for the lines . Heats up fast and snapped but I managed to get the lines cut.

More turning tonight. Resin blank sent by Jason @jtspartan . The more I polish it, the harder it is to hang on to. Not sure if I like that. It doesn't look as dark when not on camera. Has more of a aguamarine hue than the blue you see here .

It’s not that easy to turn like that, Patrick. You are a pro, no doubt.
The blank had a bit of white splashed into the blue/green resin, iirc.
It is too slick? What did you finish it with?

12 000 grit then headlight polish. It feels like I greased it . Maybe after I use it some the sheen will wear off.

With resins, I use 8-10 coats of CA spun on low speed. Work thru the grits next. A little plastic polish after that. Grippy enough.
Others take it to the buffing wheel too, but I haven’t done that.

I was going to ask you how to polish it but just went ahead blindly and gave it a shot. How do you apply the CA glue and what grit do you use for sanding?
