Tried a splash of Brut at Walmart the other day and liked the old school scent. I picked up a bottle- about $5.50 for 7 oz- pretty good deal. Anyway- my wife says it makes me "smell like an old man", lol. At 53 not quite there yet but regardless I like it and will add to the am shave routine. Will compromise and lay off it on the weekends to avoid the "old man" barbs... Anyone a Brut fan?
I am an old man, and I have never tried Brut. I do like Aqua Velva, Mennen Skin Bracer, and Pinaud Clubman. They are all old man scents I believe. The neat thing is, you can still get them.
The Aftershave Splash is the "lightest" of the three (cologne, AS, AS Splash) and then there's an Aftershave Balm that's very nice. I also have the stick deodorant. With Brut you just have to be careful not to overdo it. Personally I prefer the balm because it's very light and makes a nice finish for your freshly shaven skin.
When I used to hang with Broadway Joe we always liberally splashed on the Brut and painted the town red. I use it on occasion and I get an anise vibe. I am an old man so I smell like one, I guess.
Not a fan of Brut, but I like the idea of cheap drugstore aftershaves, as my bathroom counter can attest to. Try some Clubman Special Reserve!
I like the Brut but, of course I'm an old man. It reminds me of my misspent youth as well but, at my age those memories are a blessing! BTW, I can't find the Cologne in the local stores anymore and I am wondering if they have dis-continued the Cologne. (All they have is the Splash.) ????
Don't worry about the old man scent. wear whatever you want. I'm old enough to be your grandson (if you had your son at 15 and your son had me at 15) and I wear Pinaud Clubman.
Seconded. Working around teens, I wish more/all of them wore Brut rather than the Acks spray they favor.
I am 41 and I quite like Brut. Reminds me of my uncle who always wore it when I was a child. And he was young then, so it doesn't at all scream "old man" to me.
Amen to that. I also work with teens and in the hallways of the school where I work there's a wall of AXE to fight your way through everytime they've had P.E. It really reeks when they overdose it the way they tend to do.
Bruce, I find it locally at WalMart. Online at drugstore.com (who also carries British Sterling products).
I don't wear it. My father does. Give me about 15 more years or more and ask me again….things may change.
Exactly. Been there. Had my throat constrict and eyes burn while they, apparently, are immune to the blend of Axe and feet. Brut is very "green" smelling and most people, if they must smell something on you, don't dislike green fragrances. It's when they learn that it's Brut and have heard the stereotypical fun-making of Brut that they find it fashionable to roll their eyes and say "Oh...Brut." But I've found that if they don't know what it is, they find it agreeable (but then I do favor the splash-on, which is presumably more dilute). Another thing that perhaps others have noticed. In my past several years of wetshaving and wearing dozens of different a/s, I have never heard someone comment that any aftershave or fragrance (EXCEPT AXE) smells "cheap" the way people evidently commented back in the '60s and '70s. Possibly because people have much less exposure to higher-end scents...or because everything has been cheapened...or the scents just don't stand out as much now...I dunno. But if anyone does comment it's because they like it or they don't. No one has said, "It smells cheap." EXCEPT AXE.
I am 50, and love Brut, Old Spice, Clubman, Skin Bracer, Aqua Velva, Stetson, and Musk. My wife doesn't care fore some of these, and I steer clear of the ones she dislikes on weekends.
