After some time I yesterday finished my third selfmade razor. The steel is still 1.2842, this time hardened to 61 HRC. I also learned from my former mistakes and paid more attention not to overhead the blade after the hardening process. Lot of water, a very low speed at the belt grinder and new belts - I´m sure this time nothing went wrong. The blade is on the widest point between 7/8 and 8/8. Monkey tail with file work. The handle is form stabilizised and blue colored maple wood. The wedge is brass with blue vulcan fibre. Golden adjustable pins. Its still a little bit tricky to hone, but not a analogy to my first razor. This time I reached a very sharp and smooth edge with the first try. Only the first part of the edge was a little bit tricky to hone, here I reached it in the third attempt. All in all not more then 2 hours from nothing to a HHT. Today it gave me a very close and smooth shave. Mission accomplished.
Very impressive! The first thing that comes to my mind (besides WOW) is a scimitar. Do you have a gallery of your other razors?
Thank you all. @Mordecai: Yes, you can found the gallery here: http://fine-razors.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=3&Itemid=7&lang=english Most of the razors are vintage. I´m only a beginner with making also the blades.
That is very nice! A work of art even. It seems to all flow together. I like the Maple handle and that file work is sweet!
Wow! Not just this razor, but all of your work! When the heck is that lottory money gonna get here... :whacky011
