Okay, I did read other posts, not-so-complimentary, here and on other forums, about Burt's Bees shaving creme. But, I'm the guy that has to touch the paint to make sure the "wet paint" sign still means what it says, so, here goes... Bought a tube of this stuff, and with "anticipation being greater than the realization" I grew a couple days worth of stubble to try it out on. Now, Burt's Bees, to their credit, does make some good products in other applications, but, I suppose that my first clue should have been, the forum posts notwithstanding, and if the BB's display is still accurate is that, Burt Doesn't Shave... My first discovery is that this goo wants nothing to do with a shave brush--I did my best imitation of Don Ho, and made lots of Tiny Bubbles, but that was as close to lather as it got. Fingered in a generous portion of the stuff into my stubble, set the Fat Boy for "stun" and commenced to scrapin'. (Insert lots of discomfort-related bad words here...) Washed it off, brushed up some lather with a puck of Burma Shave that I've had for a while, and finished my ruff-stuff passes. Not to be outdone, I washed off the soap, and went round 2 with BB's for ATG and touch-up passes. Best I can give it is an "okay"-- it was wet, and better than dish-washing soap, but not by much... I finished up, and to its credit, it left my face feeling kind of, uh, waxy... didn't need any after-shave balm, and didn't smell bad, either. A memorable shave, to be certain, but not because it was a shave that I'd like to Deja Vu... I did have to do a detailing of the Fat Boy with a soft toothbrush afterwards; this goo sticks to the razor with tenacity. I did buy it from a friend's store, so I won't take back the remnant, but, lesson learned--the paint is definitely wet... Lots of good products out there, and good vendors selling them; don't get stung by Burt's Bees...
Thanks for the review...Everytime I read about Burts Bees shave soap its usually less than complimentary. Considering how well it doesn't work the price is rather steep...Although I tend to touch the paint also, this time I think I'll just listen to some good advice and use the money for something else....
They actually used to make a soap. I heard it was pretty good too. But those days are long gone. Buy some Mike's instead.
