While at the mall today I stopped at Bath & Body Works and picked up a tube of C. O. Bigelow Premium Shaving Cream. I guess it is made by Proraso and I have heard good things about it. Has anybody tried it? How much do I need in my mug to whip up some lather with? I am very excited to try it as this is the first shot at anything besides a Col. Conk puck.

What does the Menthol do for you?

I tried it once, then this happened... :D

Its good stuff, and yes it is Proraso however now that I have both the green and the white, I prefer the Green Tea and Aloe formula *Soap*.

Great stuff; nice and mentholy (did I just create a cool new word, or what?!).

I use about an inch and a half, maybe two. Whatever works is perfect... Enjoy!

I go with an inch of cream, two if I'm getting wild.

I love the stuff! 1-1/2 inch, give or take. I find it lathers like crazy and gives a fantastic shave.

I've always heard to use a glob about the size of an almond.

Thats what I was going to say, a snurdle if one would allow?

It works good but not as slick as I would have imagined. As far as the montholyness (another cool new word?) I would say that it was enough to make me want to find products with higher motholyness.

Regarding creams in general though, in my case anyway, you start of with a snurdle and then start to work it and it seems to vanish in the bowl. Don't fret and keep working it and magic will start to happen, a bunch of slurry will begin to form and then work the slurry into a bunch of rich lather. Stir it, pump it, slap it around in all sorts of different directions and you'll get it.

And until it all stops/goes away, here is my new pre signature: SNUCK FOW!

That is the first cream I tried after using Conk's soap as well. I'm sure you will enjoy it. It also got me hooked on Menthol.

And use exactly one Glob. No more, no less is required.

WOW that was an amazing shave. I gave the Bigelow stuff a go this morning and I loved it. I went for a glob/snurdle of a larger almond. I am cheap and i want this stuff to last, even though the price is not bad at all. I did get enough foam for 3 passes and touch up. First time I ever used anything with Menthol so that was a treat all by itself. I wonder if I will use my Conk puck tomorrow.

    THANKS for the tips guys.

    I love this cream.

Must be my imagination but to me this cream seems to make for a smoother stroke than the Proraso. This should be impossible if it is truly the same product in a different package. Either way I really like them.

I only use about a 1/2" as well and get 3-4 good lathered passes.

I use it on Menthol Mondays, chase it with Aqua Velva and you're ready for anything to start the week.

Good stuff, though once I found the same thing in 'soap' form (the Proraso green tub), I haven't really hit the cream much at home. However, it's a travel staple--the cream makes good lather with any brush and any soap, as far as I can tell. Oh, and I usually use around 1/2" also, and just face lather.

Ingredients are virtually identical between the soap and cream, I imagine just a bit less liquid to firm up the soap a bit.

The mentholiciousness factor is good with both though (while we're making up menthol words and all) and the stuff sees constant rotation.

I really enjoy the stuff. When I first got it and tried it out, I just kept going till the tube was empty.

As for how to use, just put some on the brush and face lather with it, works well for me.

Love it! I usually load my brush with VDH soap and then put a half inch in the bristles and it makes a wonderful foam.
