Hello, just bought a Merkur 34c HD. It is my first DE razor. A bit about my shaving past: My first razor was a rusty gillete turbo( I belieave that what is called ha, it has 3 blades is all I know), I only started having to use it last year. I've had to teach myself everything about shaving so I had no idea dry shaving is bad. That's how I used to do it lol for 3-4 months with no aftershave. After being miserable and in pain and looking like a scarred up bad shaver I turned to the Internet to see how do men do it and remain happy. So now a year later I am using a gillete fusion power with gillete shaving cream and neutrogena after shave which does not clog pores. I can get a BBS shave on my sideburns only, my neck on occasion I can get that but it requires me to go against the grain, it cannot handle that every other day. My chin is the worst part of my face to shave. I cannot get rid of all the stubble no matter what I do ( I've tried every grain method possible, did not work). I even went in to a art of shaving store and the barber couldn't shave everything(I've gotten closer shaves than he gave me so I'm thinking his skill at shaving other people was not good, cost me 55 bucks tho...). I also used a panasonic electric razor which is really nice but it can't shave my neck at all for some reason and it doesn't get rid of everything on my chin. So now I am turning to a Parker synthetic brush, Taylor of old soap and a merkur 34c DE razor and derby extra blades. It will arrive next Friday. I'm hoping that does the trick and shaving will no longer be something I regret doing or not look forward to. I am also leaving for the air force in October so I need to learn to get BBS shaves by then lol.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Sounds like you getting some decent gear in. Air Force, eh? God bless you and thanks for serving. I retired back in 2000 after doing 20 as an Avionics Maintenance Technician. What field are you getting into?
Very cool . I signed my contract for open mechanical which means that my job is assigned to me in bmt. I'm hoping to get either a civil engineering afsc or a vehicle operations afsc. Originally I wanted to be a combat controller, took and passed the PAST 3x, but just this month they raised the run requirement to 10:10 and I'm in the the 10:20s right now so I'm hoping to crosstrain in 3-4 years and just keep training in my off time. Thankyou for your service
