Can an L-sized man wear an XL-sized jacket?

    I have a question. I am currently XL-sized, but on a quest of losing weight (possibly becoming an L-sized). However, months ago I bought a jacket, which is XL and invested more than usual in it. Haven't worn it much, but plan on doing so this fall and winter.

    My question is - if I get to L for fall/winter (I really need to lose that weight), can I still wear the jacket, even though it is XL? I really don't want to throw it away. It's a very nice quilted/puff jacket. Currently, it fits perfectly on my body (XL-sized).

    Thank you and appreciated!

    Is this like a light coat? Ski Jacket? Sport coat? I think the type of coat determines your answer.

    Good news is at least its not the opposite!

    It'll all depend on you and the jacket, so to speak. If the difference isn't too far off, you might pull it off. Otherwise, get it (re-)tailored or it will look silly on you.

    edit: I thought we were talking about a suit jacket.

    Just one size? Sure way not, but you won't know for sure until you loose the weight & try it on. Then only you can answer that question.

    If you like the way it fits and looks on you, why not?

    @Stu929

    It looks like a ski jacket, but it's a quilted fall/winter casual triple-zipper jacket. Here's a picture of it on me in my current state:

    Given its baggy to begin with I think you are fine personally.

    Its not a sport coat or suit jacket.

    Yep, and if it gets real cold, you can wear a good sweater with it.

    Be glad men's sizes are more honest that what they do to the ladies. Chances are your upper chest won't reduce in size like the lower portion. If you are on a less calories/more activity lifestyle changing type of diet you may develop a larger upper chest that could make it tight up top & loose below. That's a better look than the tight across the tummy fit.

    Hmmm... seems that I made a slight mistake tho. Urban Dictionary gives "Canadian Tuxedo" as wearing a denim jacket with jeans.

    Canadian Tuxedo
    Today it refers to any outfit consisting of a denim jacket, with denim jeans. Originating in the 1950s, crooner Bing Crosby was nearly rejected from an upscale hotel in Vancouver, BC (Canada) because he had been wearing an all-denim outfit. Levis heard of this and sent him a special-made all denim tuxedo.

    Exactly. I have a beer belly and want to remove it, which means that my upper chest wouldn't get too affected.
