I need one of these--that is a great idea. May I ask, where did you get that one or who makes that? Any info appreciated, T
El cheapo brass centre punch off of ebay out of China. I took out the tip and ran a 10-32 Right hand tap down the hole instant handle . I don't have a scale but it is at least twice the weight. Tomorrow it is going to spend some time on the buffing wheel I don't like the matt finish.
Wow, that is ruggedly beautiful. I was casually browsing the forum but that post made me sit up. You've given me some ideas now.
OK, I need a little help. Got the handle, oops punch, and have a cheap tap set. Now I placed the "Head" in my padded shop vise and locked cheap 10/32 into a good screw extractor handle, put a little oil on the tap and victim, ...pushed and turned handle 1/3 turn...no real progress, got weak and decided to ask for any tips in tapping this thing. I've chased a lot of threads but never had to tap anything. Would in work to thread it from the inside where body offers some guidance? Thanks for the great idea offroad64 and any help from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks, T
Assuming the hole is the right size but if the tap goes in the hole far enough that a couple of the beginning threads can cut, it should probably work. You just want to start slow and make sure you keep the tap going in straight. Give it maybe 1/8 of a turn and then back it up a bit then another 1/8 turn basically easing forward a little farther each time. You'll probably need to apply some pressure (pushing the tap into the hole) to make the tap to feed at first but once it gets started, it'll feed itself.
I bought his Brass Handle Center Punch at Harbor Freight today for $2.99. I drilled it out and ran a 10-32 tap down it and now I have a great handle, too.
