Hello all! Just now checking in, even though I actually joined a few months ago. Been kinda busy, there’s some virus going around, anybody hear about it? So, I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you, happy shaves all!
Welcome to TSD @The situational shaver! Being the inquisitive guy that I am, I looked to your other posts. Not many folks finish a bottle of The Veg so I'm guessing depending on the situation, you might be a hard core shaver. Got any favorite hardware or software you use often? Anything you are curious about so others can offer opinion or advice?
Shavewise, I like Merkur razors, and Simpson brushes. Nothing really fancy, just traditional, old school gear. The reason I’m the Situational Shaver, is that I live in the mid-west, and we have every weather you can think of. As a result, if it’s dry, and there’s no humidity, I’ll use a boar brush with a hard soap, just to get some exfoliation and follow it up with a glycerin based aftershave. But, I live right by the Mississippi River, so it’s mostly very humid. So my skin is usually pretty hydrated, so a badger brush with a soft cream is more comfortable, and I’ll follow that up with a plain alcohol splash. A glycerin aftershave makes your skin sticky, and greasy. As for the Veg, since I use plain alcohol splashes most of the time, I like all of the Clubman products. They have different scents for different times of the year, so I use them year ‘round. I use other lines as well, just not as much. Depending on the time of the year, I use different scents. So no matter what time of the year it is, I have an aftershave with glycerin, for when there’s no humidity, an aftershave with butylene, or propylene glycol, for when there’s moderate humidity, and a plain alcohol splash when there’s high humidity. The perfect shave for the situation.
I recently bought a tube of Clubman tube lather, and I can’t get it to lather up to save my life. There are a few YouTube vids of people getting a good lather, rather quickly, but it’s kickin’ my #%&. Any advice?
