Do you typically do a pre-check of your razor prior to shaving? For example do you make sure everything is tight, blade is straight, etc. I am wondering what I should watch out for to avoid any silly mishaps. Thanks,
If it is a 3 piece razor, I make sure the blade is centered and even on both sides when I first put the blade in, then tighten it down and forget about it till I change blades again. For a TTO razor, I make sure the silo doors are tightened down before each use.
Generally, no, I don't do a preflight on my razors. However, hell hath no fury like a Gem Micromatic with one corner of the blade riding over the blade retention tab. You might just as well place a wolverine on your face and stick a hot poker up is butt.
Yeah, I think that might of happened to me years ago. Blade was messed up or the TTO wasn't shut all the way. I ended up with a pretty deep cut.
If the razors head covers the entire blade including the ends, no. If it doesn't then, yes. I have had an uneven end stick out and bite me on the ear by my sideburns on occasion, leaving me with a constant drip for about 1 hour. Ruins the morning drive and team meeting. Everyone is staring at your cut with that squishy look on their faces. Kind regards,
For adjustables, I check the adjustment to make sure it's correct. I turn it all the way down, then set it to what I want. If I'm unsing a sincel Feather AC blade, I check which side it's in so I don't try to shave with the blank side. Both three peice and TTOs, I make sure it's tight and there's a blade. Centering is done when I change the blade.
Are we going to take analism to new heights? Maybe one of our members would like to share his preflight check list. Here mine. Shower. Lather face. Grab razor. Check razor for blade. Shave face.
I make sure everything is OK when I change blades and that is about all. It shouldn't be necessary to check the razor before each shave; it should just work.
where'd I put my brain bleach? I need to remove an image now... although, that is an accurate description for making that kind of mistake with a micromatic.
