Description: Philly Style Time: 10 min Difficulty: Easy nuff' Serving Size: 1-2 depending on who is eating Ingredients: 2 fresh Italian Sandwich Rolls or Kaiser Buns (keep warm, not toasted) 1 Small White Onion, sliced 1 Small Green Bell Pepper, de-seeded and sliced Salt (to taste) Black Pepper (to taste) ½-1 pound Rib-Eye Steak, very thinly shaved or sliced ½ jar melted Cheese Whiz Instructions: Heat a Griddle/Cast Iron Skillet over medium-high heat. When hot add water to ensure sizzle, and then add small coating of oil for a non stick reason not cooking purposes. Then add onions and bell peppers, and cook, stirring, until caramelized. Push off to 1 side of the Griddle or remove from Skillet. Add the meat to the Skillet/Griddle and cook, stirring and breaking it up (if needed) until no longer pink, Mix in the Sautéed vegetables. Add Salt and Pepper. Take buns and spread on melted cheese whiz. Put Steak and Vegetable mixture on bun. ENJOY!
An alternative method is to add thinly sliced fresh mushrooms to the onion and pepper saute and use provolone cheese, instead of cheese whiz, melted over the meat/veggie mixture before placing on bread. While both are different they are both great! I make them both ways depending upon mood.
All fillers are optional, Peppers, onions, you don’t really need em'. You can also use American or Provolone cheese (no Swiss, John Kerry). Also you can use Provolone and Marinara sauce and call it a Pizza Steak.
I've heard of cheese steak but never knew what it was until now. Thanks! Is it always in sandwich form, or is this the Philly style? BTW - great new addition to the forums :happy088 James.
When talking cheese steak this is what it is. The terms cheese steak and cheese steak sandwich are interchangeable.
Thanks for the recipe. I might try it in a pinch but it could never replace stepping up to the window at Pat's and saying, "Whiz, wit".
Brother form another mother. Best advice I can give to the kids at home. Do not fall for the flashy lights and cross the street.
Made these last night. Super thin sliced steak w/salt and pepper to taste and Cheeze Wiz in warmed sliced hoagie rolls. Options: Onions Peppers Mushrooms Provolone Cheese Went to a place in Gilroy called South Philly Cafe and had their "authentic" Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. It was decent but I told my wife I could do better and she took me up on it. She told me I was right. Now I have to make them again. Me and my big mouth.
