    Hi Everyone,
Has anyone tried the in-house "classic soaps" from Classicshaving.com? Any comments on them?

    Cheers,
    Colin

I haven't tried them, but based on the reviews here and on B&B, they don't seem to be very good soaps.

I used them when I was just starting out with DE shaving. I think I wrote up a review of them for the review section. The lasting impression I have of the house brand from classic shaving is this: good soap, but overpriced. I've gotten equally good performance from a puck of VDH.

Thanks, guys. B&B has some bad reviews of this stuff too. I just ordered some TSD soap from Joanna. I'm excited to try it. I'm also interested in MWF soap now too ....

    Cheers,
    Colin

I am sure you will like the TSD soap. I have the TSD Signature scent, sandalwood, and Bamboo & Teak. They are all very good.

I find they work best for me when I put about 1/2 teaspoon of water on them and let them soak for 30 minutes or so before use. Both a badger or a boar brush works well with them.

Thanks, Dewaine, the only place I've ever seen a bad review of TSD soap is on B&B ...

    SB1,

I have three or four cakes of their hypoallergenic version. I was using them before I went in another direction. :D

If you'd like to try it shoot me your address via IM and I'll send you one.

Hmmmm, I tried the Classic Bay Rum soap, and I thought it was pretty good, although it was a little bit drying. JoAnna's Bay Rum is IMHO much, much better.

Thanks, I think I have enough others on the way to try already. Thanks for the offer, though!

    Cheers,

I've only ever tried the VDH soap, shortly after I started wetshaving with a DE. Since then I've been using cream. But I'm definitely tempted to pick up some of the house special here...

I had some of the classic shaving brand soaps. Not very moisturizing and the scents were rather unimpressive.

I used one from CS and my experience was the same as using Williams. I bought the Sandalwood for $17.00 and had a hell of a time keeping the lather wet and on my face. It never reached a slick consistency even using heated filtered water.

Ewe will really like MWF. In terms of beard softening, slickness and skin care it is among the best at each. Skin care I'd say it's the best. Scent is a very pleasant woody/soapy scent, albeit somewhat mild. Overall, it's my favorite soap and one that will alway be in my rotation.
