When I first started with straights, I took a vintage linen only strop and put green polish compound on it. As I have gotten better at honing, I realized that this strop was actually taking my edge backwards most of the time. Today I cleaned the strop off with water and a wire brush, and put some new .50 micron Chromium Oxide paste on it. I ended up with way too much paste again, but I cleaned off what I could, and it should work better now.
