Have any of you ever smelled ps, by Paul Sebastien? I've always heard it was for older men, but as soon as I sprayed it on it reminded me of old shaving smells, barbershop like, with bergamot and sandalwood. My wife's grandpa wore it as his signature scent. I can't decide if I like it or not. I keep catching whiffs of it and it smells really good on the dry down. Not sure about initial smell. What other manly colognes do you guys like? Some of my absolute favorites are La Nuit l'homme by Yves saint Laurent, Lacoste essential, Burberry Men, Acqua Di Gio, and Chanel allure.
I've always like Giorgio Red and the regular stuff I think they call it Extraordinary. Also love Aures an old Avon scent. I have a Hugo Boss that I like too.
I really like pretty much all the mens scents by Issey Miyake. I also like Mont Blac Legend and Cartier Roadster, those few are in my current rotation.
Bulgari Black. Unfortunately they discontinued it a few years ago, but you can still find it in Marshall's and other stores. Someone always manages to get me a bottle for Christmas every year.
I wear Issue No. 1 Platinum, some discontinued Vurt Black, and C.O. Bigelow Elixer Black. Just a small splash on each wrist and a little bit behind the ears and I'm good to go.
I love Lauder for Men, which is long discontinued but I have a bottle, and Egoiste, which I recently found out is also discontinued (just my luck). Both have distinctive, herbal and woodsy smells. The one I wear lately (and it has not been discontinued!) is D & G - The One.
This is one of my absolute favorites! I bought over 30 EdT/EdC samples from Rick Boone and Garry's Sample shop last year and this was one of the scents. On first application, I didn't care for it, but after it aired out a bit, I found myself thoroughly enjoying every whiff I caught of this scent. It will definitely be one I purchase after my sample is gone. Others that I've tried that I love: James Bronnley D.R. Harris Marlborough - I already bought a larger decant of this one Tabac EdC Kenneth Cole - Black & Vintage Black John Varvatos - Artisan - I just tried this recently and it grabbed me right away.
Hard to go wrong with Armani, Lacoste, and a few others. I have certainly liked some Givenchy, Issey Miyake, John Paul Gaultier over the years.
I also really liked john varvatos by john varvatos, had a great dry down. Also john varvatos vintage is neat, sweet tobacco and leather smell. Very manly, could see Indiana Jones wearing it.
Man, you just opened such a can of YMMV.... First off...after every shave I seal the deal with Old Spice AS....But as I've said before in less than an hour all traces of scent have dissappered....So It's great for layering a cologne....the OS will leave and the cologne takes center stage.... If you like vintage tobacco scent's Molinard's Habanita is incredible...it was originally designed for woman but definitely used by men...I really don't see it as a women's frag at all.... Guerlain Habit Rouge is a complex oriental for men that has a great leathery and powdery vanilla....Smells like the cockpit of a classic Jag E-type...all wood and leather with the vanilla adding a hazy dream feel to it.... Right now my daily would be Acqua di Parma Colonia....very clean, powdery or soapy, great citris to open followed by lavender and roses....feels like a sunny spring day laying in a hammock downwind from a lovely young lady who is hanging clean laundry on the line. and its blowing in the breeze...in southern Italy... Yeah...quite heavenly... For classic barbershop from heaven...I think Pour Un Homme de Caron is in a class to itself...Maybe the best Lavender scent ever + vanilla...The Lavender feels like that Barbershop from the beginning of the last century....and bought on-line is one of the 'more bang for the buck' champions, a high dollar frag with a very resonable price tag ...But don't let the low price fool you...I bought my last bottle in Paris and it was the possibly most expensive bottle of cologne I've ever paid for...either way its worth every penny...reminds me of Guerlain's Orig. Jicky without the dirty diapers...ha,ha... I think Indiana Jones would have been a Knitze 10 man....lol....or maybe Guerlain's Jicky with the dirty diapers.... PS: My advice would be don't let the opening be a deal maker or breaker...it's gone by the time you dress and walk out the door....its the drydown that will make or break your day...
You convinced me to try Pour Un Homme de Caron. I found a seller on eBay that had a 4.25 oz bottle for $29.10 with free shipping, he started with 27 and only had 3 left. It was the best price I found with a quick web search.
See....thats an unbelievable price for one of the finest Mens EdTs ever!! And with historical significance...It's been a hallmark thats been copied since its introduction in 1934 but never matched...I hope you love it!
I've heard great things about Habit Rouge, just need to try it before I blindly get some of it. Pour un homme Caron does sound awesome as well
Habit Rouge is more complex....PUHdC is like a classic barbershop cologne with its rich Lavander and Vanila...but HR is so complex it is really hard to identify the notes....its so well mixed and it moves through several chapters in its seamless drydown...They say its the first 'Oriental designed as a Man's cologne.... Kind of blows my mind...it starts off with a great Lemon and 30 minutes later its somewhere else....Its kind of an olfactory roller-coaster.....but always with alot of class....This was really Jean Paul Guerlain's masterpiece....and when they reformulated it, it was Jean Paul who did the reformulation...So if anything he even made it better...YMMV....it still has the powdery dream like thing going on and always takes me somewhere great....I used to like using it before I went to bed and letting my mind roam, as I drifted asleep...
